Default Silent Hill 2 - October 2024

Quote:
Having received a letter from his deceased wife,
James heads to where they shared so many memories,
in the hope of seeing her one more time: Silent Hill.
There, by the lake, he finds a woman eerily similar to her...

"My name...is Maria," the woman smiles. Her face, her voice... She's just like her.

Experience a master-class in psychological survival horror―lauded as the best in the series―on the latest hardware with chilling visuals and visceral sounds.
I figured it would be better to separate the various new SH games announced.

I'm very much looking forward to this closer 3rd person view of Silent Hill with PS5 graphics hopefully. That's my favorite view point for a 3rd person game.
I haven't played part 2 since the PS2 days pretty much and it was a good but clunky horror experience. Very tough games though.

Can’t have a Silent Hill 2 remake without Pyramid Head.

Hopefully this is a good quality remake, and is reasonably successful, so Konami looks at giving Silent Hill 1 a quality remake as well. Silent Hill 2's really good, but I've always had a big soft spot for the 1st game, and it could use a graphical upgrade even more than 2 does.

While I'm not a big fan of remakes, the PS1, PS2 and some PS3 era games definitely show their age as graphics advance in time. Plus in these games, the "read your lines" caliber voice acting could use a new set of more hopeful and believable actors, even though the clumsy acting of the originals does have its charm.

The controls of the earlier games were a challenge, though probably added to the tension when a monster was attacking, as the player panics a little bit with the controls, trying to figure out how to back up or get out of a corner to safety. I was replaying SH1 last week since maybe 15 years ago, and when that flying gargoyle attacked through the window, I got stuck in a corner and the character died on my first try. Just exploring is fine, but it'll be really nice to have much more responsive, intuitive controls with this remake.

Some may argue the tank controls are the best, but in real life, who moves like that, pivoting on a center circle to turn around slowly when being attacked, pushing down to back up, and up to move forward? Just let the player point the analog stick to where they want to run, keep it simple and the game will be much more responsive and intuitive. Plus they could add the option for tank controls for diehard fans.

You are right. A part of the original SH as well as the original RE series' success has to be credited to the locked camera angles and awkward controls. In 2022-23, however, I expect nothing less than a 360° camera and/or a sandbox open-world environment. If things are done right, like speeding up the enemies' reaction time; I think the SH2 remake can still be scary as hell.

Are these 3 Silent Hill games supposed to release at the same time? If so, I wonder what order I should play them in, since I've never played a SH game.

Nah

I think 2 remake is the one we’ll get first

the interactive story one (Townfall) seems like it’s still early in development, so maybe 2024. the online(?) one, we don’t know what it’s supposed to be, but I can see it coming next year, because it’s probably not much of a game anyway

as for Silent Hill f, I don’t think we’ll see it anytime soon. maybe 2024-2025

Thanks. Yes, those things would be nice to see to take this game to a different style in the survival horror genre. I'm mostly expecting Evil Within 1 and 2, with that kind of camera and action. Those games are really challenging and live up to survival horror. Not very fun to play, but tense, horror gameplay for sure.

Hopefully a release date on Silent Hill 2 soon, as it's already 7 months into 2023 next week. I'm betting 2024. No real gameplay yet either.

Plus in addition to what Talal mentioned, if they sold them all around the same time, people would be wise to wait to complete one game purchase first, then buy the other two down the road on sale. Rather than all 3 at the same time.

I'm expecting an early 2024 release. there's a leak that claims it's coming September, but since we've yet to see gameplay, I'd say it's BS

either way, I just hope it's a good remake. they can take all of the time they need as long as they give the game justice

Yeah, this is one I don't want them to rush. It's one of the most acclaimed games of all time- take the time to do it right and work out all the kinks before releasing it. We already saw what a bad SH2 remaster can bring, and this is something far more involved. But I also like to think that Team Silent has learned from their mistakes and wouldn't want to release it until it's ready, or at least at similar quality to the original.

My absolute favourite game ever. No other game has touched me quite like Silent Hill 2.

I'm really looking forward to this, although with it being Konami and Bloober Team I'm slightly skeptical. What they've shown so far looks selective but great. Would love a September 2023 release.

Sadly though, Pyramid will never be scary again because he's been overused and become the poster boy for the series and films. I just want him to be presented in a tasteful way again.

The Silent Hill movie, while good, wasn't scary at all IMO. The presentation was nicely done, but not for a horror movie. It was more like an adventure story. The sequel tried to be scarier, but also didn't succeed. The jump scares were at least a slight improvement.

The video game on the other hand, really knows how to scare the audience/gamers. Is it because it's interactive, or just better, more effective horror storytelling/filmmaking?

Yeah, more bits of information on development from Blooper team would be good.

Quote:
If Layers of Fear was the last hurrah of Bloober Team 2.0, then the Silent Hill 2 remake will be the first showcase of the studio's new philosophy. "We decided that our next titles should be much more mass-market oriented," said the Bloober CEO, "We’d like to deliver our ideas, with our DNA, not by environment or storytelling, but by action," Babieno told Engadget, "so all of our future titles will have a lot of gameplay mechanics. They will be much bigger.”
https://www.pcgamer.com/silent-hill-...m-here-on-out/
That was a PC gamer article and was mostly pretty useless for new information. Other than you can play the new Layers of Fear which scored 90% from Bloober team.

Write to Bloober team about Silent Hill 2 here: biuro @ blooberteam . com
https://www.blooberteam.com/silent-hill-2
https://www.youtube.com/user/blooberteam
That's the official Bloober team website. I swear I thought they were from a different country, but they're from Poland, as is CD Projekt Red's Cyberpunk Witcher 3.

This is their latest game, and indicates their skill level for developing horror games.

Okay, I played their Blair Witch game. It's okay.

The good news on that front is that the Alan Wake Remaster should be on PS+ in a few days if you're a member. It's not much of a remaster but I think the game still holds up well.

I've played a fair number of Bloober Team games and I don't have much confidence in this remake. Silent Hill 2 is a Top 5 game for me and I'm still happy to play the original, so I don't have a lot riding on this one. It will just feel like a nice bonus if this turns out to be good. I think it has a chance if they don't mess with the story and overall scenario in the slightest.

I think this will be one of their first 3rd person games, as Blair Witch is first person (and very linear for a forest game where you're supposed to be able to get lost in circles in a forest of all places, but ends up being very linear with clear blocks along a set path, unlike the movies most times. I have to finish that game.

I'll bet 2024 at the earliest for Silent Hill 2. Exclusive to PS5 and PC, but can't XBSX gamers play PC games too through Steam?

Well, anyone with a capable PC can play games via Steam. If you are asking if Xbox players can stream Steam games to their Xbox, there is no Steam Link for consoles...at least not an officially support OOBE. There are about 2 dozen games on Steam, all from XGS, that are Xbox Live "aware" allowing you to earn achievements; SH2 won't be included so unless it gets an eventual release on the (Windows PC) Microsoft Store, Xbox users won't get any connected benefits.

If SH2 is added to GeForce Now, perhaps Microsoft's partnership with Nvidia will see that app added to Xbox. Then an Xbox user could go through the steps to buy the game in Steam, subscribe to GFN, download the app on Xbox and play it there...yay? Doesn't sound great but it could be an option.

Reading back through all that, I'm sure it can be reduced to "just buy a PS5" but that may not be an option for everyone, and I don't know if SH2 is the tipping point that will inspire people to review their budgets.

Thanks Heyadol for your thoughts and feedback on SH2.
I was wondering if anyone with an XBSX can find a way to play Silent Hill 2 on their console through Windows or something. I think it's possible if it's on Steam, but then it would be Steam powered rather than XBSX powered I guess.

I want to play Starfield, but am not going to buy an XBSX just to play it, so most likely, I'll skip it completely if it'll never arrive on PS5, and whenever I feel like something similar in concept, just play No Man's Sky for some generally weak planet exploration in that game due to the awfully repetitious planets.

For Silent Hill 2, this new game will hopefully be one of a kind, though I imagine Silent Hill Downpour is kind of similar in some ways in terms of 3rd person view mechanics, back on PS3.

One of my coworkers (current PS5 owner) was conflicted about getting an Xbox just for Starfield, I told him about the Xbox All-Access plan and paying for the console plus Game Pass like it’s a cell phone worked for him (still needs approval from his “boss” tho ). I like the flexibility of having multiple platforms, but I get that it’s not for everyone, and it does get hard to prioritize sometimes. Even though Bloober just has to follow the existing blueprint, I feel like I might wait for this to pop up in PS+ before I play their rendition of SH2.
