It'll be interesting how much humor James Gunn puts into these new DC films. So far, that's his known track record. Humor. He does good work with the Guardians of the Galaxy films so far. Definitely funny and entertaining with good stories IMO. Slither was really good too IMO for zombie/slug horror.

Dawn of the Dead 2004 was more serious, not much humor. It was interesting for a running zombie film.

I never saw the Scooby live action films he wrote.

I did see Belko Experiment this year on Tubi. It was entertaining survival social experiment horror. It's still on there I see. James Gunn wrote that film.

The Suicide Squad sequel of sorts really helped him get the job with DC no doubt. And Guardians of Galaxy 3 likely being his last Marvel film. I don't think they'll let him work for both DC and Marvel competing against each other.

James Gunn is great at balancing tone, and despite clearly having a great sense of humor, he is also incredibly good with tragedy and drama.

Super is at times truly heartbreaking. And so are other movies of his.

I love Cavill in the roll and was extremely excited for his return but stuff happens. A clean slate is probably what is best thing to build DC back to where it can and should be. Gunn has earned the benefit of the doubt with his previous output.

Younger Supes (but NOT an origin story according to Twitter response by Gunn).

So maybe something involving the Legion? You'd get a Brainiac, just not the one some are hoping for...

I take it Superman is going to kick off the new DC? Like Reeve was the first big budget superhero movie and MoS was the first DCEU movie.

The worst part of all of this for me is its just another universe being created. Sick of every movie needing to include a last minute cameo, 7 different popular characters and exist solely to move 4 other films/TV shows to greenlight.

Just want a Superman film. Superman. A self contained story that doesn't sell itself short because it has to fit in a ton of stuff needed to intersect with a universe. Just have an ENDING. Marvel have nailed the formula but it just feels like a 70 hour movie that you only ever watch parts of.

Focus on ONE incredible film. Then make another incredible film. We don't constantly need every superhero to be teased in every other superheroes movies. It always feels like the filmmakers are not giving the film they are making 100% of the dedication it deserves because it has fit neatly into however .any other movies. Bored of universes now.

To me, it depends how it is executed.
Iron Man 2 had a great end stinger with Thor’s hammer.
Civil War introduced Spider-Man and Black Panther to great success but they were primarily setting up the solo movies.

When you are dealing with superhero movies that is the nature of the beast but end stingers can exciting and cameos can enhance a movie if properly integrated into the plot. If you can remove the character and it doesn’t affect the plot then remove it.

There is plenty of room for all Ypres of approaches. TDK, The Batman and Joker were top notch (I know you won’t agree with TDK because you have a bizarre hatred for Nolan)

But this idea that comic book movies shouldn’t be dark is absolute nonsense. Anyone who has ever read comic books would know that.

To be fair, the vast majority of the best comic book movies have at least some measure of darkness to them.

Talk about mismanagement, James Gunn is ****ing everything up.

I look forward to the day when he’s sacked and gets a taste of his own medicine.

It was always going to be messy wiping the slate clean. The fact is, the ZS films were a clusterf***.
It’s hard on HC but he understands the business and how ruthless it can be. He is not to blame, it was the shifty script and soulless feel of MOS and BVS
Gunn has a great track record and is 100% the right man going forward imo. It won’t be overnight but we will all reap the rewards in the future.

I feel like we had/ have the above with Man of Steel. That works 100% as a standalone movie.
