James Gunn Writing Superman Movie

I agree with drb999 - They should offer him the Jor-El part in the new version.

The DCEU is, unfortunately, an embarrassing mess and needs to be restarted from scratch frankly, at least for the most part. It was never given the time of day and dedication it truly deserved.

Cavill fan or not, the fact that they went through all the hubbub about bringing him back

is just ridiculous really given how this has turned out.

Hopefully he can get back to The Witcher and finish that out as intended (sorry brother Hemsworth) because despite him being out of the role for years, I’m sure he was beyond excited not only to come back, but to the point they let him make an official announcement?! I can only imagine he feels professionally blue-balled right now.

All of this being said, I generally trust James Gunn so it’s bittersweet as admittedly I was looking forward to having Cavill back and seeing Shazam, Black Adam, and Superman together with their respective actors in the roles. Oh well. So long as we get more Peacemaker I don’t care what happens.

Cavils should have been part of a soft reboot and bringing him back in a new solo movie would have really started things off in the right foot. I get wanting to start anew but I feel like Gunn has alienated a very large part of the DC fanbase right out of the gate. Plus what’s the point now of Aquaman and Shazam and the Flash if there is no future with any of these characters played by those actors?

I wanted to make sure that I didn't come across as a hater, because I'm not.

I enjoyed his stint, but am also excited at the prospect of a new take on Superman... and the fact that it's written by James Gunn.

At least the Trilogy feat. Cavill got a proper conclusion that wasn't the theatrical version of Justice League.

P.S.: I believe that Henry Cavill got a raw deal the day Zack Snyder and the Warner Bros. team at the time decided to turn the Man of Steel follow up into Batman V Superman (which I actually enjoyed, as well, in its extended version).

Cavill has been screwed over twice now by the studio regarding Superman. I wouldn't be surprised if he never works for Warner Bros again.

The hollywood reporter article says something about maybe Henry will be another character. I doubt it. That sounds like a PR consolation to make things go down easier. Just like when WB shelved Batgirl. They made a press release saying how much they couldn't wait to work the directors and the star again.

I'm checking out of DC at this point. Cavill staying as Superman was the only reason I was even excited about the prospect of a new DC Universe. I went from being excited about James Gunn taking over to now I'm indifferent. Maybe he'll make a new DC that speaks to a new generation of superhero fans though and it'll be epic, but I'm out. I've got my Justice League trilogy (MVS, BVS and ZS JL) on 4K and that's all I really need.

I hope Henry finds a great role and at a studio that treats him with respect.
