Not so fast - I gave this one a shot because I did like the first one. But, I am a known "franchise-bailer" when they dont give me enough or generate enough intrigue to get me to come back then Im outta there.

This movie was just OK and I havent changed my mind. They are running super light on "meat" for any kind of story here and they're(Jim) going to have to come up with something unique & interesting to get me on board. The characters & total story werent as good as the first, IMO.

Best bet is to see what the PLOT ends up being and what direction it takes. I am not going to watch another rehash of WOW though or another generic "Humans bad, Navi good, Navi kick ass at the end" thing. Gonna need more than that. Just saying.

Avatar 3 Writers Tease Plot: ‘You Couldn’t Predict It’

While speaking to Variety, Avatar: The Way of Water writers Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver shone some light on the story of the upcoming third Avatar film.

Jaffa told the outlet that the dynamic between the Sullys (particularly Jake and Neytiri) and the Metkayina clan leaders, Ronal and Tonowari, will play a part in the sequel.

“There’s a lot going on between husbands and wives and between the two husbands and the two wives,” Jaffer stated. “There are a lot of dynamics set up that continue to play out.”

Silver elaborated, saying that fans “can’t imagine” the variety of different clans that will be shown in future Avatar films.

“You have this kind of deeply relatable series of dynamics, inter-family, interpersonal, inter-clan, played out on these incredibly inflated scales of different worlds,” she says. “The clans that you’re going to meet and the worlds that you’re going to find on Pandora — you can’t even imagine what they are. Just like the tulkun were a revelation for this movie, there’s lots more of that stuff to come. It’s incredibly exciting, the story that happens to the Sullys. You couldn’t predict it.”

Avatar: The Way of Water*is directed and co-written by James Cameron. It features the return of Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, Joel David Moore, Dileep Rao, Stephen Lang, Matt Gerald, and Sigourney Weaver. I hope James Cameron goes fully with 48 fps for his 3D instead of mixing it back and forth with 24 to 48 and back.

"We're using high frame rate to improve the 3D where we want a heightened sense of presence, such as underwater or in some of the flying scenes. For shots of just people standing around talking, HFR works against us because it creates a kind of hyper-realism in scenes that are more mundane, more normal. As of now though, it seems his mind is set on mixing the two frame rates into one film....

As far as Avatar 3, while I like Avatar 2, I like Avatar 1 more, so hoping it's more in line with that film's storytelling.

What can we expect for the next films?

To cultures different from those I have already shown. The fire will be represented by the "Ash People". I want to reveal the Nav'is from another angle because, for the moment, I have only shown their good sides. In the early films, there are very negative human examples and very positive Navi's examples. In Avatar 3 , we'll do the reverse. We will also explore new universes while continuing the story of the main characters. I can say that the last parts will be the best. The others were an introduction, a way to set the table before serving the meal. But, obviously, everything will depend on how Avatar 2 will be received, if it will find its audience.

Avatar: The Way of Water director James Cameron teased that Avatar 3 could explore unexpected new settings on Pandora, noting that everything that viewers "need to see" is on the planet.*

As Avatar 2 has been breaking box office records, Avatar 3 is on the horizon, with Cameron at the forefront of building hype for the threequel. The award-winning director previously teased that he'll "have a discussion soon with the top folks at Disney" about the "game plan going forward for Avatar 3," mainly due to The Way of Water's success.*

As for Avatar 3 plot details, Cameron also shared that he is planning to introduce a new type of Na'vi the film, namely the “Ash people,” who represent a fiery and volcanic biome.

Now, more details about the third entry to the Avatar franchise have emerged.

Speaking with B TV Korea, Avatar: The Way of Water director James Cameron teased what biomes/settings Avatar 3 could explore.*

Cameron first pointed out that everything the audience needs to see is on Pandora, noting that he doesn't need to go to other planets to tell Avatar's story.

The Titanic director then hinted that Avatar 3 could go to the desert, the mountains, the boreal forest, and even the polar region:

*“Everything that we need to say and see is on Pandora. I don’t have to go to other planets to tell this story. So we can go to the desert. We can go to the mountains. We can go to the boreal forest, the temperate forest, not just the tropical rainforest. We can go to the polar region. Cameron also mentioned that Avatar 3 could "go to some places that are very hard to describe," teasing that "there's some amazing imagery" that he can't wait to do:*

James Cameron's latest tease could hint that Avatar 3 would mainly focus on expanding the lore of Pandora and the Na'vi instead of further examining the conflict with the Sky People (humans).*

Doing this allows the threequel to showcase the nefarious side of Pandora, thus giving Jake Sully's family a different kind of challenge.*

However, it's possible that the Sky People could also be involved in Avatar 3 as a side plot that continues the story of Spider and Quaritch from Avatar: The Way of Water.

Cameron's plan to introduce a fire Na'vi or the Ash people could hint that one of the settings that will be featured is a volcano. This is a stark contrast to what Avatar 2 unveiled, considering that the sequel introduced viewers to the Metkayina clan or the oceanic Na'vi.*

Moreover, more types of Na'vi are poised to be revealed when the Sully family encounters the mountains, desert, and polar region. Given that Avatar 3's initial cut is nine hours long, Cameron appears to have a good chunk of runtime to explore the many secrets of Pandora.*
