20th Century Fox Avatar: Fire and Ash (2025)

A thread for the third movie of the Avatar franchise that is currently in post production.

I'm hearing rumors that the third movie is 9 hours long.

If he released the full 9 hour cut, I'd sit and watch every second. If not, that's a lot of bonus/deleted scenes for home media, all if true of course.

Current cut before being edited down* is roughly 9 hours
Though at this rate Cameron can just do whatever he wants

Can't wait,
[Show spoiler]Avatar 2 was smaller scale than i was expecting so he's certainly held a lot back with a lot of potential for the third movie. All out assault on Bridgehead City? Even then the sky people can just come back again so i wonder what he has in store. Will the company still be willing to give Quaritch all the resources he wants to get Sully considering he has now failed twice, at huge expense and loss to the company?

With the way he laid the second one out, I'd gladly let the next one unfurl over nine hours!

I once saw the five and a half hour international cut of John Woo's Red Cliff on a big screen, and it was one of the greatest cinematic experiences I've ever had.

A nine hour movie would result in 2 show times per theater per day and much fewer ticket sales. I hope Cameron pulls things together with a strong editor. A lengthy Runtime doesn't equate to a better movie.

They'll get it down to 3 hours again probably.

Call me crazy, guys, but somehow I don’t think Avatar: The Seed Bearer will be 9 hours long.

Yes, from a leak in 2018 that correctly predicted the title of the 2nd film (The Way of Water)

I don't read leaks or spoilers so this is just a guess. I'm thinking the comment about Earth dying and Kiri's ability is going to lead to the Navi restoring Earth.

The leaked titles from way back were

The Way of Water (confirmed)
The Seed Bearer
The Tulkun Rider (interesting now that we know what a Tulkun is)
The Quest For Eywa

The rest of those titles are pretty awful lol, I love these movies BTW, not trying to be negative for the sake of it. I'm sure the movies will be excellent.

I'll be fine with the 9 hour cut in theater - but for home video I'd probably hold out for the eventual extended cut.

So Cameron has said if this one underperforms, he’s ready to tie it off with number 3. But apparently Disney execs said “holy ****” at the treatment of number 4, so I at least hope Cameron gets enough good news from this one to get 4 funded and released.

I hope The Way of Water performs so that The Seed Bearer can perform so that I can see the fourth film which I am most intrigued about.

Well we know number 3 is in the bag and 4 has already begun production, so as long as The Way of Water does well enough to convince them to hold off on closing it off prematurely.

I’m more interested in just finding out what wild turn Cameron has that’s got Disney either nervous or excited (or both). I feel like 3 is gonna be a safe finishing point if they just go for a trilogy.

Yeah, if it got to a point where it didn't even need any notes at all then I'm very intrigued by that. I'd even succumb to 4chan leaks of the potential script/plot to satiate my curiosity.

I bet in the next movie: The humans are all bad, Navi are all good. Dead people get the blue treatment or "somehow" return. There will be a big ass fight at the end. The Navi will win.
