Avatar 5 will reveal that the aliens in The Abyss were from Pandora all along and they’re the reason humans ever discovered the planet and then there will be a new release, assuming physical movie releases are still a thing at all by the 2030s.

I can’t remember a thing about the 1st movie, and I haven’t seen this one, but day 1 regardless.

Man, what an experience this was in Dolby Cinema. The sound especially was on a different league. At no point, I felt the picture was dim even in 3D.

Still a week left to decide to try ODEON annual pass for £16 a month which includes London West End which is close to my workplace.

My local VUE Cinema is trash btw but at least they only charge £4.99 to £6.99 per movie.

I wonder if people who write such things in 2023 realize their "critique" is even more unoriginal than Cameron's script? I guess not.

and that the Heart of the Ocean blue (get it?) diamond was an ancient artifact from Pandora. It's gonna be the MacGuffin of the final film.

Although you may interpret it as such, it's not a critique, per se. It's simply the first thing I thought of when I saw Avatar for the first time upon it's original release. To this day, that is the first thought that comes to mind when I view it at home. It's never stopped me from enjoying the movie, however.

Dolby Cinema really is fantastic in every way. The seat rumblers they use are very tactile and sharp in sensation and are timed perfectly. And they have a pretty powerful kick. This significantly adds to the whole sound experience.

Doubtful. The HFR scenes were 48 and there is no 48 fps spec for 4k Blu-ray. They would have to do some funky frame conversion to 60 fps. A lot of people were commenting how poor the HFR was in this film as it jumped from 24 to 48 and back again, and sometimes in the exact same scene. Leaving it at a constant 24 fps would be okay in my book.

It should've been nominated for Best Sleep Inducer

This is the first Cameron film I had to check my watch on multiple times in the theater. Cameron's a great filmmaker but he needs to get over his obsession with this property.

If this flashy, but empty calorie content continues to make money so he can pursue his true passions (which apparently isn't script writing any more) he will continue to churn them out.

Am I right in thinking the only HFR UHDs have been Ang Lee films?

Probably only because he used 60 fps or variations of that frame rate, which is easily converted and supported on 4k Blu-ray.

In my opinion, HFR was very well done here and much better than I’ve seen before. While the transitions were noticeable at times, the result I believe is still better than running close up shots in HFR, which in other movies looked distracting. I think James Cameron found a very pleasant overall balance. And I’m actually looking forward in seeing more movies presented as such.

That's why the theatrical cut was used for Disney+. Hopefully, they will put up the extended home video cut later, when the second film hits the streaming service.
