Any thoughts if this is worth getting if you already have the Code Red release?

You might want to read my post just above yours.

What in terms of AV specifically makes it worth getting though over the Code Red?

There was some mention of colour grading differences but that's about all I gathered so far. Great film though, especially the finale and great to see the film get the deluxe treatment.

As Superunknown80 said above, Code Red is overly brightened and a bit blown out. And the extras are plentiful and substantial, especially the lovely booklet. And the artwork and packaging are beautiful. That’s enough for me to ditch my old Code Red Blu.

Works for me. Thanks! I'll snag this one at some stage so.

Talking of replacing Code Red releases, I'd love to see an HD transfer of The Last Chase to replace my DVD of whopper Lee Majors petroleumfiesta The Last Chase.

I have the corrected DVD (audio sync issue corrected) and the original 1981 gold Big Box VHS releases of The Last Chase. Hopefully a 4K, or 1080 comes along soon in an LE box like The Last Hunter!

Treasured Films can just make it Volume Two of a new “Last” series of releases. Perhaps they can work in The Last Year at Marienbad and The Last Remake of Beau Geste.

But seriously folks, I haven’t heard of that Lee Majors flick but perhaps I should seek it out!

Here you go.

Be warned, the DVD is not that common and exists in two versions. One with a messed up audio sync issue and the other is the corrected disc. It's also bloody expensive on Gr€€dBay and completely pot luck which disc you get (i lucked out).

The VHS isn't exactly cheap either alas and isn't in the correct AR, whereas the DVD is correct. This one is crying out for an HD release. Fingers crossed it hits Europe too.

Crazy. If this ever hits Blu, I’m in.

I would imagine it would be Code Red, if anyone, who would do it. Though that's on the assumption they still hold the license for it.

From what I can interpret (and folk here would be far better and more reliable than me for this stuff) it appears Crown International Pictures titles were swallowed up by BCI and in turn BCI libraries were siphoned off to Mill Creek and Lionsgate. Not sure where Code Red fit in to that line of dominoes but they were the last to release The Last Chase.

One thing I did learn though is that "The Code Red DVD despite the 'PG' rating actually contains a new cut of the film that has more nudity and sex that was cut by the distributor to avoid an 'R' rating" (source: IMDB). I'll have to try compare the DVD with the VHS and see if there's differences.

Off of the back of that it would be safe to assume that when The Last Chase aired on ABC in 1981/1982 it would have been the PG cut. I wonder where the R cut emerged from as it states it was cut by the distributor for it's short theatrical run (it banked around $5m in 1981 off of a handful of screens before hitting the TV circuit).

Great film anyway. Hopefully we see it become more accessible in future for people to see it.

Got a copy pre-ordered from a store here in Sweden.

So might pop up in other stores as well.
Code Red have this in the USA and are notorious for buying worldwide rights for their titles despite never releasing anything outside of North America. That probably explains the "no sales outside UK" disclaimer.

Will see a about selling my Code Red disc as this looks like a decent upgrade for a film that's much more fun than any film that was almost called The Deer Hunter 2 should.
