Digital movie storefronts like iTunes, Vudu, Amazon, etc. have been operating for years, and I don't know of any significant instances of those companies having removed or deleted movies over the years. Not to say it hasn't happened, but it seems like a non-issue, especially for movies from major studios like Universal, Warner Bros., etc.

If it's any consolation, Vudu is owned by Comcast. Comcast owns Universal. Universal is the distributor of Trolls: Band Together. The chances of this movie being deleted from Vudu, or of Comcast shutting down Vudu, are very low.

I own more than 1,200 digital movies across iTunes and Vudu and I've never had any problems in the 12+ years I've been collecting/purchasing them. Considering Vudu is the only way to own/watch this movie in 3D at home, I'm happy to spend the $20 to add it to my digital collection.
Thanks for confirming all of that!

I'm not casting aspersions at anyone who likes or uses this kind of a business model, but I don't personally care to "buy" anything I cannot have fully in my local possession.

I spent a lot of years working in IT and saw various services come and go, or undergo drastic changes, so I view everything online as temporary and fleeting. The other part for me, is that I routinely travel through or to areas without reliable (or any) cell coverage, and no internet, so if I want any sort of entertainment or diversion, I need to carry it along with me.

Beyond that, I have personally experienced streamed movies or TV shows in a wide variety of locations and source providers where it has to pause and buffer - something that I find irritating because it bumps you right out of whatever immersion in the presentation you were enjoying. This happens more often than not. I'd be ok with an extended initial buffering period so that all of the content were local, which would avoid any buffering while watching, but it never works that way, so I am not a fan of streaming at all. Not to mention that what content does get pushed down the pipe to you never appears to be as crisp and high quality, e.g. 1080, even though they will claim that it is.

So, I'll do without particular movies rather than support that business model, and am ok with that.

Just think of it as a night out at the movies. About the same price and you get to watch it. With the added benefit that you if you ever want to watch it again you'll probably be able to. If not, oh well. This is how I look at it when I "buy" movies that are not out for rental price yet that I can't wait to watch, or that will not come to rental price, like this won't.

Well, the 2D version is rentable now, and no 3D version is rentable. You have to buy the 2D/3D bundle and I'm fairly certain that will never change as I've never seen a Vudu bundle be rentable, nor a 3D movie available as part of a bundle later become separated out on its own.

So I had to decide whether to rent 2D or buy 3D. On the one hand, I don't really care much about the troll movies and would probably never watch again. On the other hand, I remembered Trolls 2 had a good 3D BD. A few moments before I was going to watch I said eff it and bought the bundle. So now I own it in streamble 3D forever, greeeeaaat. lol

I wasn't much a fan of the movie. I think Trolls 1 & 2 were better. I guess if you're not expecting much you can have some fun with it. The 3D is mostly medium with the occasional medium strong shot on a deep field shot. There are popouts but they are very much toned down. Like things where something is shot out of the screen and absolutely could have a been a cool in your face popout, it comes like 1 foot out of the screen.

Anyway, I definitely don't reccomend spending $20 for this. It's decent 3D but the movie is Ok at best. And you're tied down to Vudu if you want to watch it again (which I doubt I ever will lol). And for me that means 720P 3D which kind of sucked although if you wire it directly to your TV (instead through a PS3 or PS4) I guess you can get 1080 3D.

Officially you have only 2 options, VUDU (you will need an US based account for that) and on the Apple Vision Pro. I bet bootlegs are available somewhere but you know the rules here...

Just watched Band Together. It's a very cute film to be enjoyed by the young as well as the young at heart.

The 3D was good and certainly added to the innovative animation.

A pleasant surprise being released on 3D two years later. Thanks Turbine.

Just watched the film on my projector, it took me about 10 minutes to get over my disappointment at the boxy fish tank style 3D. Only very mild pop-out. After I had gotten used to that I enjoyed it as much as the previous film. One throwaway line about every government being doomed to fail made me chuckle. There's a lot of busy scenes near the end and the depth and separation really make a difference there, even fish tank 3D is superior to 2D.

Not heard of Fish tank 3D before, sounds a little disappointing, would that be the same effect as what I call Cardboard cutout type 3D ?.

No, fish tank 3D has volume. A fish tank is a box you look into so that's just how I refer to behind-the-screen 3D. It's always disappointing that me when an animated film doesn't take advantage of opportunities for pop outs. To be fair there was a little bit of very mild pop-out and overall the 3D falls into my "very nice" category but I was more impressed by the conversion of Invasion of the Saucer Men (which I watched afterwards) than I was with this.
