Pretty sure Lucas had nothing to do with the sequel trilogy.

Anyhoo. Return of the Jedi is awesome. The final 3-location battle is one of the highlights of the entire saga.

if you're a fan & you haven't seen it on the big screen, you owe it to yourself.

Regal and AMC are still erroneously listing Empire’s SE running time.

Maybe Disney let Lucas change Return Of The Jedi again?

He didn’t but Disney did buy his treatments / idea for VII, VIII and IX and then went their own way, that’s what I was referring to.

The only reason I’m considering paying $60 to see trilogy at El Capitan, I really would like to hear the enormous laugh that Maclunkey!!! Will get.

If that is the version they’re playing.

Lucasfilm made it clear so many times that the Special Editions are the standard version now. (I'm not happy about it either, but you gotta accept it at this point. They're letting people get the very easy to find 4k scans with no legal retaliation).

Like....if it was the original, it would be a huge HUGE deal and they know that. They would market it very clearly.

So why do people keep asking? The Special edition is 26 years old at this point.
Well, Steven Spielberg changed his mind about the E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial "Special Edition" changes. But I admit that George Lucas would be a tougher egg to crack.

I can't believe Disney are botching this release. It was supposed to be in Dolby Cinema, at the least and now it seems like no Dolby Cinema, no Imax, some theaters with biggests screens don't even have it listed yet. Jeez in '97 every single theater showed the re-releases on their single best screens! Showings were sold out or nearly so for show after show. It was huge! Exciting, thrilling! How can Disney have zero thought or clue how to market SW half the time?

What the heck is going on? It's been ages since the OT has had a wide release, I mean heck, not since '97! I mean '77 to '97 was less time! How are they not releasing all three on IMAX and best screen at every theater and hyping it up like crazay like in '97? I've not seen a single commercial for it on TV. Nothing. They manage to get premium screens for all their other big re-releases so how the heck do they not bother for a SW film of all things?????????????? I know woul dbe the time, a few years since the last film and a still a while until the next. Barely anyone saw the ESB mini re-release since they went ahead with it even though it was height of the pandemic! And they never even did a SW re-release!

Blast. I don't know what it is with SW these days, but LA area is the only place that ever gets anything. They get the only 70mm showings, seemingly the only US SW conventions (NYC area sure as neck never gets those, not once ever!).

How the heck did Disney not get all three out on IMAX (and largest, best screen at all other theaters) across the nation, one per week (or even two weeks for some) and do a '97 again? Jeez I mean they even did Rogue One in IMAX again (which was AWESOME!) but the OT has not been wide release big screen in over two decades!!!!

Ah come on man, SE whatever, nothing beats a giant movie screen! (granted, they somehow seem to ahve messed that up though and seems likely no IMAX, for sure no DC, how the heck does Sisu get DC over ROTJ????? What the heck are Disney/AMC thinking??? I see ZERO seats pre-sold for Sisua at the two closest DC to me so far. ZERO!).

This SE hate is getting absurd. People went nuts for the '97 re-release! Nothing like seeing them on the big screen with a nice crowd!

I don’t hate the sequel trilogy, I’m just a bit ambivalent about it.

I think it did a disservice to the legacy characters and there was no excuse for not having an overall plot worked out from the outset, instead of doing a baton race. Lucas had an excuse for changing things around because he didn’t know Star Wars was going to be the success it was, and he still delivered a more coherent trilogy.
TROS was awesome!
I love ROTJ too though. It's hard to rank SW films.

I dont think Disney nor Kennedy care about or like the original trilogy that much. The OT gets in the way of what they want to do or Kennedy's "vision". The OT has set a high standard that Disney cant reach. The OT requires Disney to honor certain events and characters which they've struggled with. Thats how it feels to me.

The OT to Disney is the step child of sorts. They got "stuck" with the OT when they got married to or bought the star wars IP off of George.

That being said, I just finished my Star Wars marathon and completed the Skywalker saga by watching ROTJ. Its just so damned good and a fitting end to the Skywalker saga. Im still deciding if I'll watch the sequels or not. I might. If I do, I wont watch TROS though. .

It looks like this is playing at my theater. I am debating if I should go see it. A few things to consider is the fact this is my least favorite movie of the original trilogy and seeing it in the theater will set me back at least $25 plus transportation. I am thinking I will wait until A New Hope plays as that is the one I most want to see on the big screen (I already saw the Empire Strikes Back a few years ago).

While I agree that it'd be great for this to be on the best screens possible, let's not forget that the '97 re-releases were a massive deal at the time because they were the all-new, super-duper, digitally remastered 'Special Editions' with new footage, new effects, & all the other bells & whistles. Plus we'd not had any new Star Wars movie content since 1983, so the fans were hungry to see them anew & parents wanted to show their kids the stuff they loved growing up.

Nowadays, Disney has flooded the market with so much Star Wars stuff, I'd imagine that outside of the core fanbase, the demand for a big screen re-issue with nothing 'new' in it is probably much lower.

That said, I'd be very surprised if they didn't pull something big out of the bag for the 50th anniversary of ANH in 2027...

I'm with ya on this. Kathleen Kennedy is a crazy, self-obsessed loon preoccupied with political correctness. Why George ever considered her trustworthy to shepherd his company is truly beyond me. She promised him she would honor what he created...and then pretty much stabbed him in the back with the sequels.
