At the 22:30 mark, the version that is talked about with the scratches is the theatrical cut, as that's the one on Max.

Red face

I have seen the theatrical cut countless times going back to the then excellent laserdisc. I just re-watched the Director Cut recently. While the added scenes are good, they do weigh down what is a perfectly paced and edited theatrical version. The directors cut features some breaks in the music cues that are jarring and slow the narrative thrust. Really hope the theatrical is included.

Edit - also need a steelbook with the original poster art

Even if the Theatrical is superior, I've sort of got used now to the Director's Cut.

JFK is so mesmerising that it tends to (rather unfairly) cast a shadow over Nixon, which I still think is in the upper tier of Stone's films.
The Director's Cut is pointless. The talk show and airport scene add nothing. The first time I saw JFK was the Directors Cut and when I saw the theatrical on Max im never going back. It paces MUCH better

It is not set on what Garrison 'believed,' it was set on what EVIDENCE that he gained! For instance, Clay Shaw WAS a CIA asset and protected by them. What are the odds? Oswald's history is still protected and crafted from on angle only - that he was born to be a Communist! Maybe he was...

What does not belong to Garrison comes Jim Marrs book "Crossfire," which again, is based on actual documents and witness statements. The only thing that is really some form of conjecture is the "Mr. X" parts, but even he was a real life man names Fletcher L. Prouty, who was a WWII vet and a Colonel. So he was not low level guy.

The FACT remains, that JFK was REMOVED from office via VIOLENCE, not via a so-called democracy. The coup (of course) took away any democracy.

Theatrical cut with original stereo, please.

Director's cut option as a bonus.

Yes! more Kevin Costner/Oliver Stone on 4K Blu-ray.

hopefully it's WB releasing this, not paying for an expensive Scratch Factory edition.

I'll be thrilled to finally get a proper version of the theatrical cut.

I'm glad to see the original, shorter, superior version of the film getting so much love here. I'm usually the only one arguing for the merits of the original shorter cuts of movies.

My comments from the BD thread:

I don't care if that information isn't true anymore, that ending of the film was breathtaking, and I want it back in something better than the appalling standard def streaming version.

I'm also not a fan of any of the added scenes. The film was exactly the right length originally, it drags with 20 extra minutes.

I'm fine if they include the extended cut as a bonus feature, but the theatrical cut needs to be preserved for its historical importance.
I agree with offworldnexus, the talk show and airport scenes are totally pointless filler. The De Morenschildt scene is vaguely interesting, but the movie is so colossally long and complicated as it is that yet another narrative nugget is just too much.

Also, the director's cut introduces a continuity error. The scene of Costner and Jay O. Sanders in the book depository, looking out at the motorcade route and talking about the tree blocking the line of sight being a Texas Live Oak, is moved and extended. As a result, in the director's cut they talk about Clay Shaw at a point in the movie when that character hasn't yet been introduced.

It does sound like this is going to come from Shout in their upcoming November announcements.

I'm surprised some people actually still doubt the revelations from the story. Just watch JFK Revisited and it makes it clear if anything, there was even more to it than what we saw back in 1991.

Even if you believe Garrison - and you shouldn't, he's a moron - the film is still a total work of fiction. Mr. X? Didn't exist. Last-minute defections from the team? Didn't happen.

JFK Revisited is just as fictional as JFK, if not moreso.

So testimonies and evidence is fictional to you.

Must be a nice world to live in to think JFK was killed by a magic bullet that pranced around moving back and forth. The intelligence communities thank you for your trust in them.
