Everybody wants quality transfers. When we say we'll buy movies we want, it goes without saying that if they're not done well then that will be a different situation.

There is absolutely no chance they will produce crappy transfers just to screw people at first. None, zip, zero, nada, zilch.

There is a chance they may produce crappy transfers to save money, but they're not going to do it to screw people. When they go Blu it will be because they see a business opportunity. They're not going to then screw up that business opportunity for themselves. If they had that mindset, they simply wouldn't go Blu in the first place.

Default Wishful Thinking

In a perfect world ... if Paramond/Universal etc jumped ship back into Blu land ... my wishes would be answered if they did a swap for HD-DVD's purchases in exchange back for Blu-Rays (I know this will never happen thus the wishful thinking). I can't complain to much ... I grabbed a Toshiba for $120 and got 10 free movies out of it ... so if they do go Blu ... and if I could swap those for Blu-rays ... that would be very cool.

Again ... wishful thinking but ... I know i'll end up buying way to many of the titles that would cross over.

That's your vision of a perfect world? No world peace or prosperity for everyone or universal happiness or anything along those lines? Just an HD DVD swap program?

I ended up selling all my HD-DVD movies for almost the same price that I got it for....already re-purchasing them in Blu version.

If Paramount or Universal come back, then i want both CEO to be fired for making a dumb decision. This can be over now instead they're making this issue longer than it should be.

Yeah, but he paid cash for DUD,... I can see his point of view. That's one mistake I would want to recover from fully.

For bringing their company a boat load of money from a stupid company?

Dont blame Paramount and Universal for bringing in immediate cash; Blame the stupid companies (MS & Toshiba) for offering them that money & making the issue longer than it had to be.

I just read that over on HD Digest. They may be retooling this for Blu Ray. There has been talk that Season 1 is all but ready for release on blu, why not have one come out shortly and then release two this summer.

Though it won't be a huge seller, there are trekkies out there who would buy.

but since so many dud-sters have their hopes to get Sweeney Todd before the bottom falls out of HD DUD,.. I think that would be a great one to cancel.

I thought beowulf was mediocre...

Why stop there?

I want both CEOs to kneel before me, each presenting me with a check for $1 billion, then I want them executed by firing squad.

After all, they did take sides in a format war.

I think most here would agree that Transformers would fly thru the retailers doors. I to am guilty in wanting it. The title I really want though is Face/Off. I don't want to import it so I just wait and wait till Paramount turns blu. They did an excellent job on the encode for the duds so bring it on.

I'm glad clownface isn't my parent. ;-)
$150M was a business decision. My guess is they haven't come back now because they are going to be able to keep some of it. Wouldn't you sell for a losing format for .. what $20M? It would be hard to pass up.

During the early DVD days. We in the DVD forums were trying to coax Paramount to do anamorphic widescreen releases. Bill Hunt I think played a role. They eventually did the right thing. And yes there are Trekkie Blu-ray supporters out there - I know. Trekkers tend to be tech savvy. If every Trekker owned a Blu-ray player we'd already have overtaken a major fraction of the DVD market.

I agree, most of the stuff Para did on Blu looks good anyway. They clearly know what their doing with transfers and hey I guess they needed the 150mil. They are pigs for selling us out the way they did but most of us are willing to forgive that and purchase good quality product from them. Universal can only be blamed for choosing poorly, they have be dud forever.

We all know both will see the light and change its a matter of time. I think the best we can do is boycott their products as well as Universal's until they start pressing Blu. Bottom line is money; it is the only thing they care about. Q1 reporting will be hitting in April, meanwhile news like Lionsgate is going to help.

You know, I'm pretty sure a few good titles (more than a few really) could have made them that $150 million dollars easily, i'm thinking there were other reasons for them to switch, maybe they really did think that HD-DVD was better.

Or maybe Microsoft threatened to start buying shares at twice their price....it's what i would do if i had enough money to buy a studio....or microsoft, then sell them to apple

Exactly. Going neutral is all I want from Paramount and Universal.

I am not forgiving them until they became BD exclusive. It's better when they made announcement, they drop HD DVD completely and backs BD exclusively (unlikely). Then, they can win me back.

Neutral is bad because we'll get the neutered releases like WB had been churning out in order to satisfy dud's deficiencies. I don't think they'd spend the $ on making separate encodes for both formats, that's why BD exclusive is key.
