If I understand correctly, there are two different new artworks. One can be seen here in the thread and the other in the video. Were both created by Tony's Stella?

And what I didn't understand in the video, why is the interpositive not timed and what was used as a reference for the color grading? A laserdisc would be anything but a good reference, since it was still possible to work so precisely back then.

As he said, that particular interpositive was not created as a printing element i.e. one which would be timed and then have an IN(s) printed from it to create release prints from, from what he says that IP was intended purely as a positive preservation element of the OG neg so it didn't have any timing decisions baked in, just as the OG neg doesn't.

But I think we now know why VS are using IPs lately despite having OG neg readily available for whatever movie, it's that VS' owner Ryan Emerson would seem to prefer the look of an IP scan. And as it's not got any photochemical timing it would need just as much digital grading as a negative would anyway so it's not like it's cheaper to use that IP vs the OG neg.

I only see the same cover art in the vid as the one in the first post.

Aw man, The Warriors and Streets of Fire are probably my two most-watched Walter Hill films lol. Glad they're now both on UHD.

I did actually watch the Shout one, and I've got a review screener of the Second Sight edition somewhere. I won't be importing this tho because these VS titles are just too darn 'spensive. Hopefully SS's license is still active and they can do their own 4K.

Guess I'll be waiting a year to purchase at a fair price...I only have this movie recorded off HBO from 1988.

Agreed that the VS price is high, even without importing, though the non-SE version (without the magnet box, book, slip, or other items) will come after this version at close to half that price. I have a few of these though, and do like the non-disc detail. Cloak & Dagger is one of my favorite collector's versions from any boutique. VS did everything right, from the essays in the book to the slip looking like a retro game, complete with a $9.97 price tag spot-glossed on it, all in a classy magnet box. They do good work.

Reality is, this isn't a movie with built-in nostalgia goggles causing me to jump on that box like C&D was (or the upcoming Conan from Arrow is) and unless something triggers me, I'll be content to wait for the standard version.

When does this actually release? On the store page for the item it says it ships later this month, but on the checkout page it says it ships after their Black Friday sale in November.

Pretty sure it’s January. Their email says it’s a January release along with news stories of VSs January releases.

No, there are two different artworks here. One is the green and yellow artwork with the back cover, which is also listed on the Vinegar Syndrome website:

https://vinegarsyndrome.com/products/southern-comfort

The other artwork is the green-yellow-red artwork in the video at 1:46 minutes.

I don't understand why he should prefer the look of an untimed IP scan.
Here it was done for archival reasons and the OCN is lost. But otherwise the OCN offers more image information while an IP has the advantage that you don't run the risk of changing the intended look with digital grading.

Ah, I see now, thanks.. I was just looking at their trailer vid, not the restoration one.

Here's a screenshot of it. Looks to be Tony Stella's work too. I'll add it the first post as possible insert cover art.

Well it's the essay I want really. Arrow's non-LE booklets are pretty thin and cheap, but I like reading the essays on the crapper.

He prefers the physical qualities and look of interpositives as a whole, not the untimed part. He describes such in the clip.
Negatives aren't timed either. Again, it's preference for the look of it, not necessarily how they are or aren't color graded.
