personally I bought a copy of this despite not having seen it before because it's so transparently a kind of hollywood studio movie that's gone extinct. this movie would be made as an episode of NCIS nowadays, if not a tubi original |

His review scrore is based entirely on his political grievances and has nothing to do with the actual film's quality, FYI.

I couldn't resist the Amazon price. The 4K looks and sounds great. Most of Simon West's movies look pretty good though. He always reminded me of a slightly lesser Tony Scott but still fairly slick. Not Travolta's best from the 90's but decent enough. Oh and mine came with the slip.

If they want to leave their personal opinion at the bottom of the review - fine. But it shouldn't contribute to the overall score. Last edited by Werdsniper2; 05-07-2025 at 06:16 PM. |

I purchased this at the sale price and watched it the day I received it. IMO this is a quality movie. Probably better than 99% of movies made today. It's an absolute pleasure to watch a movie where almost everything is real and not cgi or green screen.
I like that the included bluray is the new version and not a stale years old one. I almost couldn't tell the difference from the 4k. If the 4k never existed I would have been delighted with just the blu. I highly recommend this release. Last edited by blse59; 05-07-2025 at 09:39 PM. |

This title is immediately on my must buy list for the next Kino sale.
My list of titles I'll be buying are interesting this is one of them. It does not include Things To In Denver When You're Dead, Posse, Nate and Hayes, and Donovans Reef as I'm buying all of those this month. Titles I'm planning on buying for the next sale Sneakers Sands of Iwo Jima The Generals Daughter That's it for now I'm probably forgetting a few titles, but they'll probably come to me at some point. |

Just watched my budget buy of this. I found the movie to be pretty good, and it covers material rarely touched on outside of indie dramas. The sweaty southern camera work is very well done, and the music is used well. Oddly the weak link for me was Travolta, who just didn't fit the part. There's a big confrontation at one point that wants to be a Clear and Present Danger or A Few Good Men moment but Travolta just can't sell it.
The HDR on this looks magnificent, but the 35mm scan in 4k aspect was pretty meh. I didn't see any obvious compression issues but subtle "meh" encoding might contribute to it not looking as crisp and filmic as you think it should, I dunno. Overall a good presentation though. |

Never seen it , Looks good to me . Great price today . that is a really dumb review by the way . I give a rats ass about someone's personal view . If it has 1 star I would have bough it just because of the negativity . So the review sold the movie to me

I took advantage of sale as well. I have always loved the movie.
Things like this is so subjective. What one person loves...another person hates. I always look at trailers and make my own decision. Sure, I like seeing tohers opinions. But do not let that sway my decision. Does anyone really go by Rotten Tomatos? I could care less. I ignore their ratings. We watched the other night. It did look great through most of movie. But did feel that is was soft at times. Nowhere near reference quality, but pretty good. I never owned the bluray, so cannot say if the 4K is much of an upgrade over it. I have the DVD, so for me, it is a big upgrade. Has anyone else have issues with the bluray? I popped it in to check out the bonus and could not get it to load. I have the Panasonic 820. I even tried the region-free hacks in case it was region-locked. But nothing. I tried many times, even rebooting player, ejecting and reloading. But nothing worked. There isn't much for bonus, so not sure if it's worth the hassle of returning. |

Just picked this up on cheap blu in the UK, and as usual thought I'd check the boards to chat about it, read the comments about the review, read the review and holy hell, what a howler. Pulling a 1999 Simon West potboiler and using it to have a 2025 style culture war rant is definitely a take.
Who are we hiring as critics next, Dr. Bunsen Honeydew? |
