I watched this gorgeous film last night, and it was presented in 1.66. Is the information on the release page correct that this release will be in 1.78?

I've been wondering about this for a while whether the Criterion UHD will open to 1.78 again - the Wenders foundation lists 1.66 but of course the old Criterion Blu-ray states in "the director's preferred 1.78".

French release seems nice but no eng subtitles. Meanwhile UK why put "A Curzon film" on the cover looks awful. I guess must wait for Criterion release. That's the only way ....

Pretty lame design, just using a still from the climax as art. Was hoping it would be a nicer original piece, but alas not (it is better than the design for Wings of Desire’s Ultra Collector edition, I’ll give it that)…

I mean, if they hadn't hired an artist, it would have been fine. But they hired an artist who actually did this lame artwork. I feel like they were scammed. They could have made this design themselves.

I kinda like it though but hiring a designer for that wasn't needed.

Both Wings and Desire and Paris Texas were designed by Sister Hyde and I dont like them either. She usually does excellent work (the Criterion cover for Bound is stunning and I also love the covers she did for Arrows Fassbinder sets) but these look unoriginal. Her wording on Twitter implies that the designs were coordinated with Wim Wenders, so maybe thats more on him if he wanted these two "money shots" exhibited.

You might consider being more concerned about prioritizing the overall picture quality and the encode on a uhd release, over the cover art details on the packaging...

Well that's your opinion If I buy a physical release I expect also the artwork to look nice. "A Curzon film" why? a Wim Wenders film, seems very hilarious to be honest to have it written like this. But that's just my opinion.

I am concerned about both, but Curzon 4k transfers seem to be better than the Criterion 4K transfers of the same movie. Hence I pre-ordered the Curzon version from Amazon UK.

There is only one new transfer of this film.

All of Sister Hyde's work, and that of other artists are done with input from the filmmaker or art director, and usually involves a lot of back and forth feedback So I do imagine it was indeed Wim Wenders who wanted a cleaner and simpler aesthetic for this, and Wings of Desire.

I also get a kick out of Curzon taking a director's credit approach to labeling their releases It's pretty stupid
