Oh man, I'm really interested in this, but at that price? Adding the documentary to the package does add to the appeal (buying the documentary on its own would run me about $40), and I've been wanting to see the longer cut for ages, but do I need all that swag?

my order went through this time. I just love this movie so much. It's probably in my top 5. I've never seen this in 4K or the extended cut. So I'm excited about that. I don't want to miss the chance to own something like this that also has the extended cut. Not confident the US will get a 4K extended cut.

I’m very apprehensive and while its a nice limited case… I think more work has been put into it than the films and it’s a gamble with their encoding.

I’m passing on it, just cause they are not making any effort for the audio options.
If they restored the film from the negative they should've also restored the audio from the original stems too. I'm not even asking for a new 5.1 just the original theatrical Dolby Stereo Surround affair. Hopefully Warners release this stateside with an all new Atmos mix or something. Definitely a pass for how much it is and I'm certain even if Warner doesn't pick it up I'm sure Arrow or Kino will for much cheaper.

The original stereo track is perfect. Pretty disappointing that it’s not being included here in what otherwise looks to be the definitive release.

As you noted the 5.1 is overcooked. You also hear Bastian shouting the Empress’ new name quite clearly despite Wolfgang Peterson stating in the commentary that he intentionally drowned out that part in the original mix.

That is an insane set, but I suspect this will come out in the US and if it's Warner will probably do both cuts. Imprint and VV seems to have just gotten into Ultra HD I don't think I could even blind buy a set this expensive based off that little cred. The resale will probably be high on this if that Trust the Fungus set is anything to go by, it should be a solid investment even if you sell it later to grab a Warner disc.

Arrrrrrrgh.... Okay, just bit the bullet and ordered the set, though I was really hesitant to pay that much. But the film (and book) have a very strong nostalgic pull for me---can't believe I first saw---and read---this 40 years ago.....

And I have the feeling that it will be absolutely impossible to obtain this set at a reasonable price later, on the secondary market.

I already own the German 4K, I'm not paying $170 to get this with a book lol, not even with my renewed interest in reading.

This is infuriating. I really want the discs as I have very little faith we'll ever get both cuts in 4K let alone the documentary from WB, but I absolutely do not want any of the other garbage, like even if it only added 5 dollars to the price tag I'd go with the cheaper edition. Do they ever sell "standard editions" later on, or would that end up dropping discs?

200 dollars? I was so excited to see this announced, but that price tag is ridiculous.

Yeah I just watched the old Warner Blu last week and I posted on the forum. That 5.1 is so botched its unreal. Not only was there weird echoes added to almost every spoken line, those same lines were completely buried in the mix and the LFE was soo boosted it just made for a muddy incoherent track.

True, but that doesn't have the US cut, and no doc or deleted scenes.

Not sure what you mean by this being one of Imprint's first batch of 4K releases. Imprint released Cross of Iron on 4K UHD in October 2023:

From a search of the VV site, looks like they also released Reservoir Dogs, The War of the Worlds and Saw in 4K UHD.

And they're releasing The Driver and Suspiria 2018 before The NeverEnding Story comes out:

If there's something different about this latest batch of UHD announcements, I missed it

I got excited at first too until I saw that price.

Don’t get how the world we got here - how they can justify that high price tag!

Warner's release will be lacking in the extra's department. Pretty sure they never pay to port extra's from other labels.
