Saw this last night after work and had a blast. However, I have to echo the general sentiment that the marketing department dropped the ball by including the first act revelation in the second trailer. Not knowing that would've made the first 30 minutes a lot more sinister and unnerving. Instead, I was just pointing out signs as they came along. The mystique of the first trailer was enough to sell me immediately, so I don't know why they needed to blow their load pre-release.

There's still enough fresh energy here that it doesn't completely ruin the film, but going in blind is recommended if possible. It often plays more as a black comedy than a horror or a thriller, but I was also the only person in my theater laughing, so your mileage may vary lol.
[Show spoiler]Not quite on the level of something like Ex Machina, but miles ahead of the slop that was Subservience last year.
I can definitely see the film's social commentary ruffling some feathers if the wrong audience watches this, though.

Black comedies don't do well in America. I was the only one laughing during a lot of The Menu, to the point that I almost felt out of place or wondering if we were watching the same movie.

Favorite movie of the year thus far. As others have said, it’s best to go in as blind as possible, but I had a vague inkling of the
[Show spoiler]main twist
and still enjoyed the opening act just fine. Script has a lot of fun with the material and the two leads are perfectly cast. Quaid is basically reprising his Scream role here, only with better writing and a more nuanced performance. Thatcher is the standout of course. Between this and Heretic, she’s quickly becoming one of my favorite actresses in horror.

Saw it in a PRIME theater and I will say it wasn’t exactly a showcase of the format. I’m seeing that it supposedly has a 4K DCP and Atmos, and while it was certainly nice and sharp, it’s fairly bright for horror movie and thus doesn’t require lots of inky blacks. Also doesn’t really rely on quiet scenes with atmospheric sound or jump scares so the Atmos didn’t call attention to itself either. This isn’t meant as a criticism, more an FYI to keep your expectations in check if you see it in a PLF theater.

This was pretty good, though derivative. Ex Machina was better.

I really enjoyed this and only saw the teaser trailer. In fact if the poster would not have let me know what she was I probably would not have known until the reveal.

Really well done.

Went into this one completely blind (just knew it had positive reviews and had science fiction elements)

I was absolutely blown away. I watched Wednesday and haven't been able to stop thinking about it since. A movie sufficiently directed to have a lot to ruminate over on the nature of AI, the nature of people, the impact of these changes on the entitlement a person feels over others... While still being sufficiently open to allow these discussions to take an array of shapes. And an exceptional thriller, to boot.

There’s a great little throwaway line toward the end about people
[Show spoiler]chaining up their companion bots in the basement.
The delivery makes it very funny but man is it dark.

I ditched the Westworld series after a few seasons but at least early on it was exploring similar themes as Companion. Companion has a lot more fun with the concept though.

I saw this last night knowing nothing about it except for the first trailer from a few months ago. It was a lot of fun!

Saw this last night, loved it. One of my new favorites , the 2020s have been a great decade so far for horror. One of the best imo

Very quick turnaround to VOD and disc. One of the rare times where I’m happy to wait for the disc release rather than use another A-List slot for a second watch.

Friend recommended this. I went in only seeing the posters. No trailers, no plot synopsis, literally just the poster of her. Didn't even know Quaid was in it.

Had an amazing time. It's rare to be put on a ride and not know where you're going next.

I kept thinking "ok, we're this kind of movie." "OK, we're THIS kind of movie...."

This was good albeit a bit shallow. Sophie Thatcher carries the film!

Rest of the cast plays things pretty light, and that tone works quite well, but Thatcher is locked in as always. Very promising young actor. She holds her own against a phenomenal Hugh Grant in Heretic and is the best part of the otherwise pedestrian The Boogeyman (which I was inspired to revisit after realizing she was in it).

I just read the Fangoria write up on Companion and was disappointed to see her quoted saying she was hoping to break out of horror because she finds the roles so demanding. She jokes about adding a “no blood” clause to her contracts. Hopefully it was just the stress of the shoot getting to her because she’s a natural in the genre.
