Also preordered, I've not seen the longer version yet and am looking forward to whatever the workprint is.

That said, I noticed in the trailer and clip they posted that the image is somewhat cooler (the dreaded tealification) and desaturated compared to the previous Japanese bluray. Which is unfortunate, imo it had a wonderful natural palette.
I get what they're going for, sure they had the original creators to supervise the restoration or whatever.
But I liked the way the film looked before, even if this still looks good.

Preordered too, and I see your concerns, but maybe it's only that scene in particular, there's no sky or dunes to really appreciate brighter or warmer colors.

What have me baffled a bit is the OAR, after more that 35 years of watching it in 4:3 a lot of details seems simply missing to my eyes, especially in the matches / fights, where you can't see under the waists of above their heads.

Mine just shipped as well - the wait has been agonizing since my order also includes The Fall and some other titles I am really looking forward to. Anyone know a ballpark of how long it takes to get Aussie shipments in the US?

Still waiting for a shipping notice for it and Daybreakers. Both are reportedly shipping now, just not for me...

For anyone that wants this information - the answer is 14 days. It took 14 days from notification of shipment to delivery.

Mine took 7 days. I'm on the west coast. But my order had The Fall, Daybreakers, and Pulse.

Mine had The Fall and some others as well. But that tracks, my shipment was stuck in LA for a while before it came to the east coast

Its not just the trailer the entire master is desaturated and frankly doesnt look good...to the degree it almost looks like there's something wrong with it.

I’m unfortunately starting to believe that there’s something wrong with the image as well. I found an image comparison in a German forum with the Japanese Blu-ray: Sure, the Japanese Blu-ray is anything but good and not really an option, but just compare the colors. In my opinion, the Umbrella is too desaturated. To me, it looks as if it was encoded in SDR but with HDR metadata applied.

Totally agree, and it's much worse than the Blu-Ray they packaged in here by comparison in that regard.

It's completely unnatural and I wonder if technically there's something wrong with it along the lines of what you suggested. IMO it extends beyond being an "artistic choice".

Highly unlikely that anything like a color space error happened here with FiM having done the encode and presumably QC as well.

If its not an error its highly questionable revisionism on the part of the director as the movie looks distractingly artificial in a way it never has, ever before.

The UHD caps look really drained and whatever else they did to it, looks like a style choice to me, maybe whoever did it was trying to correct how the old one looked. For example the sky seems to go from blue in the old one to blown out white in the new one, seems like some sort of revisionism to me. The old disc is so crushed though wtf happened. This movie seems like a pick your poison on video.

Yes I was quite taken aback by how this looked at first. I also have the Japanese blu-ray and it’s very different - not that I would take the Japanese blu as being accurate to the original intent. The vibe of the UHD worked for me in the end, and David Peoples praises cinematographer David Eggby all through the commentary, so I would be surprised if it’s revisionist but who knows. Original intent? A mistake? I’m happy with the disc, but would like to know what happened.
