By far Sir John Barry second most underrated score (Number 1:King Kong 1976).

Didn't the Titanic break in half? I remember in this movie they raise a completely intact ship. No James Cameron back then.

Well this movie came out in 1980. The actual wreck of the Titanic wouldn't be discovered for another five years...which revealed, for the first time, that the ship had split in half.

If you mean magnificently bad, then you'd be right.

Actually, many of the eyewitnesses in 1912 said the ship broke in half, it was just that nobody believed them. Conventional wisdom had it that the ship stayed in one piece and they were just hysterical Then the wreck was discovered. Oops.

He's talking about the score being magnificent, not the film. I've yet to hear anyone disparage Barry's impressive efforts on the film, and I don't think you'll win many friends here by being the first to do so.

Oh I love The Final Countdown! I have the 2-disc Blue Underground DVD edition which is quite nice and would buy a Blu-ray release in a heartbeat.

Has a CD score/soundtrack album of John Barry's score for Raise the Titanic been released? A fair few of his scores have been released on CD in recent years, including Mike's Murder.

Also, based on the IMDb alternate versions page for Raise the Titanic, if the two deleted scenes are not lost, am hoping Shout might be able to acquire these and include them in their Blu-ray release of the film. Also hoping Shout might be able to get an interview with David Selby, as there was an interview with him on Scorpion's DVD release of The Girl in Blue.

Raise the Titanic isn't a classic, yet when I've seen it on TV it passes the time well.

To my knowledge the original recording of the soundtrack has never been released. However a re-recording by the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Nic Raine, was released a few years back. Not usually a fan of their output, however I picked this up and it's surprisingly good.

Currently on Amazon.co.uk for £14.99 + £1.26 postage. Link below to page:

The recordings are apparently lost, sadly. A depressingly large number of Barry's scores are MIA because they were for films by small companies that have since folded, and which didn't store their materials properly. John Williams, and others, scored mostly big studio films and those companies seem to have kept everything where it could be found.

OP, can see you have changed the title of the thread. However I'm a little confused as to the date you have included. Pre-orders are already being taken and the release date is 21st Jan 2014.

I was wondering why the original post was dated 2008. Anyway, yes, the date of the preorder should be changed to 2014.

That's alright. I'm familiar with more of Barry's much better...and later works. There's nothing that good about his score here. It borders on pure cheese.
