There are still sales to be had, if you shop around and have patience.

Best Buy has Buy 2 listed Blu-Rays get a $20 gift card.

And next week Target has a Buy 1 Get 1 Free offer on a list of Blu-Rays.

Ya, I touched on that in my first thread.. the titles are all re-treads of past BOGO's. And I do shop around... not paying full price for these.

That doesn't discount the fact that the prices have seem to climb back up to the $30+ range from the mid-$20's when the war was going on. I love Blu-ray and would like to be a big supporter but not at those prices. Especially for those titles where I am simply replacing an existing DVD title.

well that will be completly up to u, the consumer because you why? when these company see the sale number and notices that not many people buying blu-ray much, they will have no choice but to lower the price to fit with the budget of the consumers.
i haven't never spend over 20 buck for BD unless it's something that i really wanted.

I dont think prices are going back 'up' anywhere. They've always been that expensive. Maybe you come some on a good sale randomly. But if they were lower than the 25-35 range, they were definitely on sales. 25-35 has always been the standard price.

This is why im happy atleast the rental places have started carrying them. The truth is buying a disc for me atm is just very low on the list of prioritys. I would rather spend 10 or 15 bucks and get to rent and watch 3 blu's then spend over twice that to own one. Most movies i own get watched once maybe twice a year tops, so at the current prices it just does not make sense buying them for myself.

Its not that the prices have gone up, its the lack of bogo sales and such that make it seem that way. I myself dont really like paying $27 for a movie anymore, when i know i can just wait a few months and find it used, or on an eventual bogo/price drop.

The prices haven't gone up. There's just no superduper cheap deals.

Here's the thing about deals. If it happens everyday, it's not a deal. It's standard pricing.

Oi. Noobs and former HD DVD fans...

the prices have not gone up at all. The sales have just gone lax like all retail this time of year does. Wait until summer, and then winter. You will see sales again and price drops. In fact there was just a price drop on many titles recently by $10 or $5 (depending on title). Plus the new Amazon sale with over 100 titles.
If you want cheap movies, get a DVD. If you want quality, be willing to pay a little more for the Blu-ray.
The prices will drop, patience young padawan learner.

Even if the prices increased this wouldn't be abnormal and shouldn't be viewed as greed by BD.

It's natural progress that when there's a new technology it's always super-high priced as it's "skimming the market". This was a special case where we had a format war, and those super-high prices would have been even higher in the last few years if it wasn't for the competitiveness.

Now that the format war is over, and within a consumer market averse to multi-formats, demand for BD will shoot up due to a consumer confidence fueled by this, so BD is now in "skimming the market" mode - just like it was new only in this case it was shifted by a year or two.

But this "skimming" won't be as bad as the normal "skimmings", and will not last long. Expect significant price drops later on in 2008.

And the new releases are back to Day 1 pricing. I went to my local Best Buy yesterday with the idea of grabbing I,Robot... Independence Day and No Country For Old Men. I expected to pay around $20-$25 per disc.

I was disappointed to see the old "Day-1" pricing on these titles... as if we were going right back to the beginning.

$28 for I, Robot? Come on!

$34 for Independence Day & No Country For Old Men? Crazy!

I ended up leaving with just No Country For Old Men and wasn't all that happy about it. Just because you won the war, doesn't give you the right to screw us now because your competition is gone.

Fix your pricing Blu-ray!!!

UM I PAID 15.15 for No Country For Old Men.
19.99 for Cars
14.95 Fifth Element...

perhaps you dont know how to shop well? as a matter of fact 23.95 is the most i have paid for any blu's and i have over 50. (excluding Planet Earth) and that was 49.

Please share your sources then "Mr. Shopper".

Not going to happen...i wish HD-DVD was still around. When two companies were battling for supremecy the consumers could get deals left and right. Now because of Blu-ray winning so early it's now a SELLERS market and not a Buyers market. They have no competition which equals to the consumer will have to pay. Thank goodness i am not a first wave buyer and have quite a few movies to keep me busy until those newer ones get old. That said i WILL NOT pay more that $22 for a Blu-ray movie.

There's just as many deals out there. All one does is have to look and shop around. Just because the war is over doesn't mean they're going away entirely. Target has another BOGO sale next week even.
