Even on the 60 GB model it is not 100% compatible with all PS2 games. I've heard various estimates of 97%-99%. That is very good considering literally thousands of titles have been released on the PS2 worldwide.

Cost. Emulation is cheaper than an Hardware.

I guess you should have done your homework

People don't always Research what they buy. If everybody did research what they buy before they bought it, American Car Companies would Die

While I agree that the consumer needs to be more responsible about their purchases, I think with the number of SKUs out there, it would get kind of confusing for people who don't really keep up with games as most of the people here do.

I'm not sure how it goes in the States or Europe, but here in Japan most retail stores are pretty thorough in explaining the differences of each PS3 SKU. In each electronics store I've been to, the PS3 section always has a chart that outlines what each SKU is capable of doing. Also, when I bought my 60gb back in early January, the girl at the checkout counter actually had a checklist that she went over with me, telling me things like I'd need to buy an HDMI or component cable to play in HD, that I'd need to charge the controller first to use it wirelessly, and that the PS3 is not a blu-ray recorder (which is apparently a common misconception in Japan). Needless to say, I was pretty impressed. It's too bad you won't see that kind of effort being made at Walmart, which is sadly where it's probably needed the most.

I'm sure you would do the same as Sony.

Then others on message board will use your own quote above agains't you.

"IMO they should have never scrapped the BC in any of the models."

This time, "they" as in YOU.

Put yourself in Sony shoes, and you'll see that taking out the BC was not even an option. It's something they must do. Of course they can bring back BC later, but for now, they were corner to remove BC.

If I was Sony I wouldnt have dropped BC, simply because it wasnt all that expensive component wise. I already saved money when blu laser diodes dropped $175 in price and I would have used that cost reduction for my future price drop.

BC is something Sony is known for. You cant drop it. I know people that are waiting until the price is reasonable enough for them and the model is available with BC.

Look here for specifics

The 60gb is the most compatible one however.

PS1 emulation on the PS3 is all software handled.
Whats funny there are things the 80gb is compatable with that the 60gb is not.

How funny is that,
