I can't believe the Blu-ray reviewer gave the video a 4.5 rating after admitting that it was less than stellar. The truth is, in terms of video quality, this release is only slightly better than the SD version. Don't believe me. Check it out for yourself. I, Robot, on the other hand is significantly improved over the SD release.

Although I do not agree with all of what you said, I have issue with the seen where Randy Quaid is flying his jet into the space ship. Ever other seen looks flawless but when they go to him is so grainy, it looks like they did not fix the PQ on this. It is only that part, has anyone else noticed this? As for the rest of the movie, the PQ is great but lets you see the cheesy special effect, that now look very dated, oh well the movie is what 12 years old, I guess it hold up okay, but for a big blockbuster title it should have gotten better treatment. All in all I say a 4.5 was reasonable. The cheesy acting and lines however....

There's no reason why they couldn't have at least included the extended version. |

I don't see what the fuss is about with extras, first usually with Blu-Ray, they will includes the SD extras on the same disc, and this will be at the expense of the PQ and AQ.
Second if you are a fan of the movie, you probably own the DVD set already, and the extras being shot in SD, comes to the same quality you would have them on Blu. Just keep the extra disc, or rip it to a DVD-R, put it in the blu box, sell the DVD and you got your double disc set with all the extras. However, I'm all for inclusion of audio commentaries and new HD shot extras. |

I noticed in movies from the last 10-15 years when a special effect beings the screen becomes grainy. Before it was never noticeable i guess but now...it all comes to light. I noticed it on Stargate too, the picture is gorgeous but suddenly when a special effect is coming everything becomes grainy (the Rah scene) Same for T2.

Still, for those who would've wanted both versions, I'm sure space was very little issue here. |

I bought Me, Myself, and Irene last week for a ridiculous $27.99 because I like the movie, lucky for me I always check the Hot Dealz forum and it turns out Amazon dropped the price to $19.99 so I got my $8 back ![]() What I think Fox should do is have all catalog BD releases, whether they came out today or last year go for a $24.99-$29.99 MSRP, so we can get them for $15-$20 on a regular basis from Amazon and other sites. New Releases on the other hand, I can see why they charge the $34.99-$39.99 premium MSRP, thats pretty much the case with Sony, MGM, Warner, Disney. I will give it a year or two before you see $19.99 MSRPs on BD movies as a norm. P.S: My wife was able to find both ID4 and I,Robot at the BestBuy store near her work this afternoon. She was even able to get the cashier to match Walmart's $27 sale price and still use the $5 Off BestBuy BD coupon ![]() Last edited by DAMNSAM77; 03-12-2008 at 08:40 PM. |

The below is what I wrote in the comments section (just copied and pasted here):
The Definition of Summer Blockbuster When this movie hit the theaters, I stood in lines that were wrapping around the building in order to be one of the first to see it. By the end of ID4's first week I had seen the movie 5 times, having to stand in long lines each time. IMO, this movie is the definition of summer blockbuster (a.k.a. popcorn flick) and the excitement surrounding it at the time, was just unreal. If you couldn't tell already, this movie is one of my all-time favorites so I've looked forward to its release on various forms of media over the years. VHS was adequate but I had to purchase two copies since repeated viewings were wearing out the tape. The DVD release took care of that issue and upped the ante with better video and sound as well as providing two versions of the film. At the time, it was also a perfect demo disc for showing off your subwoofer. Now we have the blu-ray release of ID4, using media that finally allows the movie to look and sound as good as it possibly can. For me, it's an understatement to say this movie was the most highly anticipated hi-def release but I was also a little worried about how the movie would hold up with the increased fidelity of blu-ray. I think it's safe to say, the blu-ray release of ID4 does not disappoint. The movie/special effects hold up surprising well and it looks and sounds far better than any of the DVD releases of ID4. The blu-ray also provides the capability to save all of your settings (audio, language, bookmarks, etc.) and can be restored on subsequent viewings. A nice touch. The only disappointment that some might have is that the blu-ray doesn't include the extended scenes or all the extras from the DVD release. It does provide some new extras but it would have more appealing to those that enjoy the special features/extras if they had included everything in the DVD release as well. Anyway, if you like summer blockbusters and sci-fi, this movie is a must have (imo). The movie and special effects hold up well for a movie it's age. It has never looked or sounded better. |

i think some people get overly critical of some blu's because flaws ARE more noticable, but go back and check out the SD version with that critical eye and you'll see many many more flaws and the ones you don't see are just being overshadowed by the lack of detail and flaws on a whole, not to say there are not a few sub par blu's out there.
just got this in the mail today, gonna try and get id4 and i robot in tomorrow. perfect films to play with my new sound system. |
