Yep, it was November 14th of 1989, about 3 months after my 9th birthday. I grew up with the film, watching it endless times on VHS, bust I actually hesitated to buy the DVD at first. I guess I worried about being too "girlie" as a 26-year-old man, and felt kinda burned out on it as well. I eventually bought it anyway, and it was like being a kid all over again.

Wow, that seems like eons ago. I don't even remember anything about that time in my life unless stuff surfaces in my sleep.
Yeah, a lot of my own childhood memories are hazy at best, but I do remember specific things at different times.

And Katzenberg apparently tried to apply live action rules to animated films. He wanted them to edit The Black Cauldron because he thought it was too dark and scary. The animators must have looked at him as if he were a crazy person.
I've never seen "The Black Cauldron", but I've heard it has a reputation for being one of the darkest animated films in Disney history.

I know we saw Beauty though, which I plan to see on the big screen again and fully appreciate it in January.
I saw that one in the theater as well, but don't remember how often. Aside from memorizing the songs for my school choir, a lot of that year is a blur (I was 11). It's right up there with "Mermaid" for me, though; I still love it.
