Maybe people are looking for reasons to justify spending big $$$$ on speakers?
As much as I agree with you, that you should listen to speakers before buying them, the argument made by people on the forum is that the internals of BOSE speakers are technically worse. They do not have the same capabilities as other brands with half the price.

I see the point the BOSE response is trying to make, but BOSE are weak speakers.

That's at VW's test track in Germany. If that doesn't throw a spanner in your plans, I guess you have learned something from BOSE.
Ha, ha.
Ahhh - but my product will feel better.

It's a question of personal perception, don't you know?

I agree. IMHO BOSE are weak speakers- not because they don't publish their FR curves - they just don't sound good to ME.

Well the original post mentions 5% THD, which is totally unnacceptable.

I think his point was that some amp power sheets are fudged since you would need an extremely low ohm speaker, and even then the THD would make the sound terrible. Therefore something like 1000w @1ohm at 5% THD is complete crap (unless all you care about is SPL subwoofers for cars)

The thing about speakers is that while technical specs don't tell you EVERYTHING, the fact is that speakers with horrible technical specs also sound bad to almost everyone because they aren't physically capable of producing the range of sounds our ears can detect.

Sounds are physically real things, we can measure them and compare them. It isn't like we're talking about trying to measure virtue or love in a laboratory or something. Subtle differences in technically similar speakers can produce differences that our ears can detect, but we're talking about a gigantic gap in qualitiy between Bose on one hand, and anything else near its price on the other.

Bose only sounds good because it is usually compared to the tiny, no-name speakers in your TV, not other speaker systems.

If Bose does not publish frequecy response they are saying more than acually publishing the information.
