I love Circuit City, they've always treated me better then Best Buy. The other day, my girlfriend's Blu-ray Sharp player has issues, she had it for 5-6 months, didn't want to go through the hassle of waiting for it get fix since it's still under warranty, we brought it to Best Buy, they wouldn't let us exchange it without a receipt, we wanted to get the Panasonic model which is $100 more... Went to Circuit City, they let us do it and since Sharp BD player was selling for $500, we saved money for going to CC!

Circuit City in my opinion has better customer service, salesperson are more knowledgeable, you can negotiate the price where as BB will not budge. I'm all for CC!

Anyone find it odd that Blockbuster's profits are down 33% and Circuit City's are up 17%

I stopped shopping at Circuit City for several years after they tried so hard to push "Divx players" (no relation to current Divx codex) on consumers and delayed mainstream adoption of DVD for at least a year. Because I did not want to support a company that was behind that stupid idea I stopped going for a whle. It has only been in the past few years that I have started going back there again.

I am now of the opinion I buy at either BB or CC depending on who has what I want in stock at the price I want. I research in advance and don't need the salespeople except sometimes to show me where what I want is, but that is all.

However, I have seen some problems with CC.

- went to buy a simple HDMI cable recently. Couldn't find anything buy Monster and I'm not going to pay that. Come on, at least stock a store brand of something.

- I also went in recently when looking for a Plasma. When I told the salesman I was just browsing he was quick to tell me that they were feeding their flat screens with a 480p signal that was split about 50 times and that is why I was seeing pixelation so what I was looking at on the screen was the worst I would possibly see. Come on - that is not a way to sell HDTVs.

I did actually buy my recent plasma from CC, but not because of them. I did my research and with sales and discount cards I bought from ebay got a better deal then I could get from BB and they had free delivery which I wanted since I don't have a truck or anything to transport a 58" plasma.

So they made a sale, but only because I do my research. If I was basing a decision off their display TVs I would have walked away thinking HD didn't look any better then my SD unit.

I want to tell yall a very interesting story. This is about circuit city so bear with me.

3 Years ago while I still attending college at ITT tech of Arlington, there was a contest being held by my school there was a wheel involved you spun it and what ever prise it landed on is what ya got.

Mine landed on gift cards... $50 at circuit city, $25 at starbucks, $25 at somewhere else that escapes me at the moment.

Learning of the release of Star Ocean 3, I figured wow free game... I let a few days pass assuming a turn around for it to hit stores.

I go to circuit city's website.. odd the game is not listed. So I decided to visit my not so local circuit city store, other side of town.

The stores clerk goes to www.circuitcity.com and searches the website for star ocean 3, she informs me it doesn't exist.

What.. its out in other stores (I had verified this previously) they then said if its not on the website so they dont have it.

My heart crumbled I was full of anger and fear entered my heart, I slowly calmed myself and asked them a possibility for it to be coming out at this store.

Its not on our website...

What dont you have a database with all this stuff... the website the store clerk said...

Okay I said, I went home and dispatched a very special email to circuit city, a email that I poured my full feelings into, what it said I do not recall, but it contained portions of what happened that fateful day and a portion of my soul.

The next day I receive a email not from customer service but from a executive at circuit city, fully apologizing for not only star ocean not being on there website but also for it not being on the shelfs.

He said he would have this fixed immediately...

A day later I received another email with a link, to its proper place on the circuit city website, and information that if I should feel inclined to visit that circuit city, that it has been stocked with star ocean 3.

I decided to visit... and what I saw took my breath away...

All new release cabinets had been emptied for all system and replaced with Star Ocean 3, 3 cabinets 5 shelfs each.

I think tears entered my eyes.. I had influenced a change not just a normal change but a huge change in my favor.

I go to a store clerk and asked for star ocean 3.. this time the store associate smiled really big... Of course Sir and droped what she was doing.

I exited the store with The biggest smile Ive ever had on my face.

With this one simple action I am now a faithful shopper at circuit city.

I'm not sure what the problem here is: a) the poor signal or b) the salesman telling you why the image was so poor. If the problem was the poor signal, then I understand your issue. If the problem was with the associate telling you why the image was suffering, then consider it from his point of view. He is tasked with selling product that is high quality, but is being displayed in a less than high quality condition. This can put him on a poor footing to begin his discussion of amazing HD quality. Also, you need to realize that the majority of customers still are not educated about HD. If the average person comes into the store to get a feel for what all the fuss about HD tvs is about and sees a grainy, garbled image and they will lose interest. I used to tell people that, if they thought the tv looked good in the store, then they would be thrilled when they got it home and the signal wasn't being split 50 times and filled with all kinds of artificial interfearence.

My question about this is why their feed was only 480p. All of the new stores, if not all stores in general, are equiped with a 1080i satellite feed and a 1080i loop.

The problem was that trying to feed HD TVs with 480p split so many times it was pixelating. I know exactly why he told me that even though I told him I was just browing. He was trying to make sure I didn't make too many assumptions from the picture quality I saw.

However, that is a horrible way to sell HDTVs. Imagine if a guy brings his wife there because he wants to get an HDTV. Wife sees pixelated 480p picture and tells husband "This is no better then out current set. No need to upgrade" and husband leaves without a new TV. You can't show stuff off with that kind of horrible setup.

I noticed all my local stores use a co ax cable with what could only be considered sd quality footage on them.

Absolutely how I do it. In fact, there are times where if I can't find it myself, I'll just leave. It's not like anyone in there has EVER asked me if I needed help finding anything anyways...

I did find one at CC the other, off-brand. I forget the brand (Nexxtech maybe?), but I gave 30 for it. I know, I know, no monoprice.com, but I just couldn't wait to use my new receiver to its fullest...

The Circuit City in my area is one of the worst run businesses I have ever been in. Nothing in the store is organized in any way. At all. Movies, games, music: completely random. The people that check you out (when they get around to doing it) are basically illiterate and very rude. The prices are also about the same or worse than Best Buy, and they do not have anything in stock. I think Blockbuster should save their money, or plan on buying it and completely dropping the Circuit City name altogether and calling it Blockbuster Deluxe or something like that. Sure, one store is not a representative sample, but I just cannot imagine a regional manager walking in the store in my area and not firing everybody in it on the spot.

I disagree. Look at the 1 year for SHLD. Thats a 50% drop, worse than the XRT.

Previously the stock was trading at a premium because of Sears significant real estate holdings and the belief that Lampert was running it like a hedge fund. So the profits were in Mr. Lampert playing around with the excess cash and not with sales.

The article was also in the New York Times today, i think both companies will tank. Circuit City is pathetic and every one i go into is empty.

Both of those companies are like sinking ships, and this move may speed up the process of them both going out of business earlier than expected.
