Thanks Chris! I saw like 35 different (non US) and 14 titles in Japanese without covers for 2006 so assuming those are different too, 147 + 35 +14 = 196

196/9 - 22 monthly

Goes to update Apocalistic numbers.

now whats missing is the European list

Amir Majidimehr
Corporate Vice President, Consumer Media Technology Group

Actually, demoted last year. He used be in charge of the entire Digital Media division.

He frequents the insider thread on AVS Forum.

Yes, it is extremely odd for someone that high up to be on the forums. But, he's Steve and Bill's FUD point man. And an amazing slippery fellow. He is brilliantly subtle at mixing rumour and innuendo with facts about BD. And he always words it so he has deniability about the BS he pushes.

Other insiders are more straight from the hip, and prone to mistakes.

Gary

Meanwhile the BS "PS3 Everywhere! Not selling! DISASTER!" numerous threads are open for business. Just shows where that site gets their bread buttered.
This comes a day after a big pop in the stock of Sony for hitting PS/3 targets. So, it's clearly the work of short sellers (probably hedge funds) calling in favours with the media.

Sleezy bunch those short sellers.

Anyway, the retort is: GREAT! This means Europe will have plenty of decks for launch and we can take out Europe too. 3 for 3.

Devastating news for HD-DVD. Man, the crap from that HD-DVD "BS" machine never stops. They are certainly getting more brazen and will stop at nothing to scratch and claw their way to digital media domination.

He's opening up Microsoft for a potential lawsuit. There is no doubt that people invested thousands of dollars for HD-DVD based on his comments in the forum. I am very surprised that MS will allow him to speak in a forum. The corporation I worked for had strict guidlines and everything had to go through the legal department prior to release. Meridian's reputation has been damaged as a result of the HD-DVD forum's premature announcenent. They better get their ducks in a row and start coralling the zealots.

I have worked for one large corporation in the past, but I definitely would ever publicly say who they were, even in a forum where I am anonymous. The company would never let me. Even now that I don't work for them, I still know the business inside-out, and what their business plans are and future holds for them, and this is a multinational bank that we are talking about here.

Here is one very possible scenario:
1. A PR flack for HD DVD sits and reads the boards.
2. He writes up proposed responses and runs them buy a minimal legal review (maybe a low level lawyer on staff). (Lawyer may red line statments.)
3. He emails them to Amir for approval final. (Amir may red line statments.)
4. He posts final version in Amir's name.

Amir does not even have to personally log on.

From personal experience I can tell you that once you get to the VP level (and absolutely once you get to corporate officer level) 90+% of the press releases put out with your name attached are not written or said by you but are just OK'd by you.

Microsoft is absolutely nothing if not very good at manipulating the finer points of the law and the legal system. One point they could easily put forth is that 99% of consumers in the U.S. have no idea who Meridian is thus how could Microsoft damage a reputation they don't have?

Take it from one who has debated him in threads, he is definitely the one responding. A response can appear in minutes. And then a response to my response.

I definitely know Amir is extremely intelligent. He carries himself so well.

And that is the amazing thing. He has spewed so much nonsense, and I still don't dislike him. I guess that's because I know he's just doing his job. And I admire the posting skills he's exhibiting.

He'd be a formidable political asset.

Gary

Here we go, classic Amir. Concerning the BD-J problems on the Sony deck:

Quote:
Well, Talk claims that is not the problem but a firmware bug in the players. If it is a firmware bug, then it is clear that the content was not tested on them.

Of course, you could be right that the player is not BD-J compliant and the bug is much more of an ugprade than a bug. But then we have to decide if we believe what Talk is telling us about the nature of the problem. Don't we?
Note, he doesn't claim anything. He merely idly speculates or agrees to other people's assessments of issues he is totally unqualified to speak on. At the same time he is trying the destroy the credibility of the BD insider. But, he has built up an air of authority, and he is seen as very powerful on AVS, so his words can carry great weight.

The response:

Quote:
I confirmed today, with my own work, that the Sony player is quite BD-J compatible. I read somewhere around the AVS that the problem was really an issue with the file structure on the disc. Any other insiders wish to comment on it's truthfulness?
So, in other words, Amir is full dog poop. But, he never claimed anything. He merely used innuendo to imply it.

Gary

I guess it's a personal bias of mine against people spreading FUD intentionally. I would like to believe that executives are above that. I know many that are not, but they don't often last very long -- it catches up with them.

If you know him, then it is almost definitely him doing the posting as you should be able to tell his personal posts from some PR flack's posts in his name.

Not my type of politics, I suppose. I guess that's why I stopped them when they hinted at a position for me in the current administration in DC. It would have been a decent career move, but I can't spew forth crap and write & enforce policies I don't believe.
