Default SVS PC ultra has SERIOUS bass

I just got to try this out a few days ago. Now I configured it for 10 hz and played Nelly Furtado's "Childhood Dreams". It's late at night and I don't want to disturb the neighbors even though I live in a house.

I cranked up the sub, and played that song, and I could feel the waves of bass, the sub was shaking, and a poster tube holder that was on a table upstairs fell down. I will listen to the rest of the song tomorrow.

a lot of bass is one thing, but there 'can' be TOO MUCH...... but whatever floats your boat.

and you are the one who does not appreciate "real" bass. to hear or feel a 10hz note is nothing less than stellar. it is not volum but quality.

Although I haven't listened to the sub you have, I'm fairly confident my subwoofer is capable of going lower/louder without distorting..... but if you enjoy it... fine.

what is your sub again? that gives you "real" bass?

To hear a 10hz note would be stellar - impossible, but stellar! I would actually be surprised if you could feel it that low - unless there is a whole lot of SPL behind that 10hz.

And outside of test tones, how much media actually contains frequencies that low?

The only sub I use is a Rythmik DS12 based kit that I built myself, so I'm definitely into quality rather than quantity, but I don't even get to use THAT very much . I think I would wake up the little darlings if I did. Very frustrating.

I was strongly considering the Ultra when I was shopping since I had seen several people on various forums using dual Ultras. Now that I have the PC+, two Ultras is just ridiculous. I can understand needing one for a large room or whatever, but two is just insane. That is the guy that is waking you up at night!

I believe every bit of it! I watched Hitman the other day and it has some pretty intense and DEEP sound output in the 0.1 channel. I don't have the Ultra, but I have the 20-39 PC+ and there is a picture on the wall about 3ft. from it. It was actually bouncing off the wall(not just rattling) for a while and then it completely hopped off of the nail in the wall! It fell into a blanket so it didnt break so it really made my day!

I don't even have the gain turned up very loud, it is just so deep. It doesn't overpower the rest of my system but it does move alot of air and produce some very deep bass. I am completely satisfied with the PC+, I can only immagine what the Ultra can do.

By the way, if you want another house-shaking demo besides Hitman, try the beginning of Sweeny Todd. There is some very evil and EXTREMELY deep organ music there. Enjoy

just for fun (because I don't typically have the house to myself with a 5-6 month-old and wife, and also because I think it sounds terrible.....) I decided to see how low my sub could go, and not distort.....

WELL.... I didn't find a "Bottom" to which it would begin to break up..... I really pushed it, and turned off the center/surrounds, and was at the point where I didn't want to push my fronts any-more than I was too..... (B&W 703s)

My sub (14" Def Tech reference series) wouldn't distort at all.... but of course everything in my house was shaking, and I continuously had to turn it down.... take glass figurines/plates from the china cabinet, pictures, etc... and move them so they wouldn't fall/break etc!

My CD of choice was Les Claypool's Fearless Flying Frog Brigade's live performance of Pink Floyd's "Animals" but I listened to many other "Bass-Heavy" albums on CD/SACD as well.

My wife wanted to know why lamps etc were in the other room when she got home!!!!!
