Does anyone know if Parker Posey's character, Kitty Koslowski, will be coming back for "Superman: The Man of Steel"? If so, could you let me know? Thanks!

I am very hopeful for Man of Steel. I recall Singer mentioning that he was going to go all "Wrath of Kahn" in the second movie. Hopefully that means alot more action and perhaps a foe worthy of his incredible strength. Watching trailers for Hancock make me wish for some bigtime battle scenes in Man of Steel.

I guess I don't particularly care for that concept... especially when you're talking about Superman.
Superman embodies the same popular structure of any savior. Born from heaven, raised by common man, told of his destiny, not exactly original

Quote:
What does "Single/no kids Lois" and growing up have to do with being "feisty?" Most women I know with kids are more feisty today than they were before kids... you kind of have to be!
But she wouldn't be in the same way as she was as the single reporter with no baggage

I've honestly only seen the older Superman shows a couple of times years ago, so I honestly can't comment much on Neill, and while I hear what you're saying regarding "Smallville" (and even somewhat agree), Erica Durance's Lois (along with Delaney's character) are still closer to my "vision" of Lois Lane. Kidder and Hatcher's were close, but Hatcher occassionally came off as "whiny" and Kidder's occasionaly came off... well, I'm not sure... still a little off to me.
Ms Neill has played Lois in both the original serials and the George Reeves TV show. She played Lois Lane's mother in the original Superman film (Jimmy Olsen from the 50s show played her father), and then the old lady in Returns. I had a wonderful talk with her whether or not she thought that someone playing her in Hollywoodland would determine whether she's the source of the Superman curse .

Quote:
al-El never lived on Krypton, Earth is his home! I never understood this whole "alien" concept. Batman's a "loner", Superman grew up with Ma & Pa Kent, had a friend in Lana, and now has Lois and Jimmy as well. How would the kid cement his connection to his adopted homeworld... he's never known anything different?
Because he's not human, that's why. He's always been alone in the universe, but he never had to come to terms with that, because he never knew for sure what happened to Krypton. I can't speak from experience, but everyone else I've seen who has kids, it glues them down. We're talking about. He had a friend in Lana, but she knew Clark Kent, as do Lois and Jimmy

The core concept of Superman is that CLARK KENT is the mask. None of them know the real him, all the know is the mask and the character that he hides behind. They don't know Kal-El at all. Just like Bruce Wayne is a construct that the real man hides behind.

True, but to do somewhat of a 360?

See, I grew up on the comic books, and in the comic books, Clark knew what happened to Krypton... and he was raised human... he didn't learn otherwise until he was 18.

I once read years ago an article with a comic book writer. He was asked the difference in writing Superman and Batman, and his answer was that writing Superman was different in that Superman WAS Clark Kent and "Superman" was a persona he put on to allow him to help people, but when writing Batman, Bruce Wayne was the mask that Batman put on. This was evident in their interactions as well.

The Superman that I grew up on was about a couple on a far-away planet that was doomed, so they found in a far-away solar system, a planet which supported similar life and a similar atmosphere, and they sent him there. When he crash landed, he was found by a couple who were childless, and took them in as their own. They raised him as a human, but as he got older, his powers started to develop, and they told him how they found him. After finding out what he was, he went and saw Lana, flew her around, told him what he was and that he was leaving Smallville to see the world. After years of living abroad, saving people in secret, he was forced to act in public when a space shuttle was going to crash in Metropolis. Aboard that space shuttle was a reporter by the name of Lois Lane who wrote an article with headline "Mystery Superman Saves Space Shuttle" (or something like that). Realizing that he needed to do something, he went home to Ma and Pa Kent, where Ma created his costume for him (and Pa, or at least I think it was Pa created the "S" symbol for his outfit after Lois nicknamed him "Superman"). Pa even came up with the idea of giving him his old glasses to help him lead a life as Clark Kent when he wanted to. Sometime later, Clark learned that he was Kryptonian from a message his parents left him in the ship that transported him to Earth, and eventually Hawkman and Hawkgirl took him to the remains of Krypton.

I want the proper bright red suit back in the 09 sequel. The suit in Superman Returns bored me, not the movie.

It was created by a couple of Jews Seriously you can find a dozen mythological saviors who had the same structure.

There's a difference between being told and seeing for yourself. He took the ship to Krypton, and somehow found the remains of his father's house (unless somewhere else had a big "S" on it) and almost died in the kryptonite asteroid field the planet's debris had become and barely escaped with his life. He was raised human, but humans can't fly, or do super speed, invulnerability, leap tall buildings whatever. Donner followed the classic structure to a T.

That doesn't work though, because he's not bumbly, he's not weak, he puts on Clark so the people he loves are protected, and to divert attention from himself.

Well, that's Byrne's revamp. I'm talking the classic version. While Byrne's version certainly works far better in terms of a continuing comic series, for the films, and as the pure legend of Superman, the scenario Donner replicated and Singer follows is far better for that purpose. When you've got 2 hours to play with, simplicity is a good watchword

I took the time out this weekend to rent those movies (which I haven't seen in years). They were definitely entertaining, but I think Superman Returns improved on them in some regards. The effects thing is obvious, but I'm also referring to the darker tone of the movie. I just like that more than the old comic book, Star Trek Original Series level silliness of movies. They have a certain charm, but I like my stuff to feel real within the accepted unreal of the setting. To me Superman Returns is what the Donner Cut would be if brought forward to modern movies, with all those cheesy moments cut out.

I edited out some nonsensical ramblings that were tempting me to break forum policies!

I grew up on a different version of "Superman", one that, to me focused more on the MAN in "Superman", and the version presented by Donner to me is "uninteresting". I liked Reeve as well as a few other parts. Singer did a good job with making Superman "iconic", and the cast did a fairly decent job with what they were given, but the story to me was boring and uninspired.

I'm ending my "participation" in this thread here as I'm honestly not going to change your mind, and you're certainly not going to convince me that SR was a good film. It probably is better than it would have been had Nicholas Cage or Sean Penn ("He's got that caged animal look like Superman would have") been cast, or JJ Abrams's "alien suit" version of "Superman" come out, and I'm hoping that the sequel is better, but I still consider SR to be a disappointment (regardless of whether or not it's considered "high concept").
