No. I never want to see a system that compromises the theater business. Folks, I am here because I love movies. I do not have $20,000 or more in my home theater because I like how the equipment looks or sounds. I have invested all of my time and money to have a setup that best matches the theater for only one reason: I love movies. If you are agoraphopic and cannot leave the house for psychological reasons, then I understand. Otherwise, go to the movie. This last weekend I took my family out to see Iron Man. We had a fantastic time. That experience was much different than at home. Any system that releases day and date with theatrical releases would have an adverse affect on movies. Unless you are Bill Gates wealthy, you will never have a setup as good as the best theater in your area. Some places even have major releases on Imax screens. Try to match that in your home. If the studios went to day and date, it would put theaters out of business. Then just imagine the prosects for which movie would get greenlighted. Already it is difficult even in a large metropolitan area to see high quality art films at a decent theater.

It's extremely unlikely that the studios would ever allow this without major DRM on the disc.
1) What would prevent a group of people from buying the Blu-ray and sharing it. (or renting it) 2) Blu-rays are relatively free of ripping at present, but, this will most likely change as the price of recorders comes down. 3) It would be very easy to record the movie off the screen using a camcorder and have a SD version of the film ready to post on the internet. |

If it were just me, there would be certain movies I would (rather than see them in the theater at all) I haven't been to the theater in a while..... but since I'm married, and have the "wife factor" I voted "NO" because I wouldn't be allowed!!!!

Im waiting for...
Indiana jones trilogy transformers charlie and chocolate factory... none of which have been announced...if I had a choice of getting it now or waiting at least 7 months...i would pay the $100 per bluray. but in your question of paying $100 for a movie ame day as released in theaters - depends on the movie - for iron man - yes for indiana jones kingdon of crystal skull - yes chronicles narnia - yes batman dark knight - yes Last edited by xcntuatd77; 05-05-2008 at 03:42 PM. |

No way in hell would I even think about or could I justify paying that much for a movie (blu-ray or not). That's just absurd. Laughoutloud funny. $100.... that's crazy!!

only way i would ever do that is if i had a large family. if i had like 6 kids and including my wife and me it would cost probably cost near $100 when you included popcorn (smuggling drinks into theater 4 teh win). at that point it would be cheaper just to buy the blu @ $100.

I agree with you, but did you know that VHS movies were released at over $100 at one point (only to come down to about $25 several months later)?
