how were the characters unrealistic? Would you go after someone you love? Are you telling me you would leave the one person you care about to do die? Hud was that one loyal friend you had all through school... are you saying he wouldn't follow you? The chicks with the high heels are the douchebag cheerleaders. Beth was wonder woman. duh.

Wow, not one mention on how well the bass is in this movie! I've got an SVS PB13 Ultra, and OMG, this movie rocks! On a 27" mono sound tv I can see how many did not like it, but I really enjoyed the first person perspective.

Is it believable?............come on, are you serious? What hollywood movie is? I think it was well done, the sound is amazing. I have watched it 6+ times and will watch it more before the BD comes out.

If any of you have home movies, you should appreciate this movies angle, many of my non edited movies are exactly like that. Just not that good sound

Warning: Spoilers below!!!

________________________

I didn't exactly like the movie but I didn't hate it either. It left too many unanswered questions and the shaky camera bugs me. I'm hopeing the sequel will answer some of those questions and be filmed in the normal manner. One of the biggest questions I have... How come none of our weapons hurt the thing? They fired guns, tanks and even dropped bombs on that thing and it just kept walking along like nothing happened. I could understand if it had scales or some type of armor that our weapons wouldn't do much damage but it looks like it's got a soft skin like us. Also, I hope the second movie focuses more on the monster. It works for the Godzilla movies and that's what people want to see. If we wanted to follow people around for two hours we can just go follow some strangers out on the street. As for the little creatures that are falling off of the big monster... what are they? Space Fleas? or babies? Cause if you watch the featurettes on the disc one of the guys says the big monster is just a baby. Also, if it's from space, how did it survive out there? It obviously breaths oxygen or nitrogen (There's more nitrogen in our atmosphere than anything else) because you see and hear it breathing in parts of the movie.

Oh, and just so you know if I am ever in a disaster area (natural or otherwise) don't count on me to be saving anyone. I'll be breaking into a gun shop or pawn shop and loading up on weapons and ammo then I'll make my way to safety. If people wish to follow then that's their call but I won't be sticking my neck out for anyone.

Talking

I've been reading everyone's opinions and I just have to throw my hat into the ring... For all you guys saying "I hate the shaky camera", and whatnot...You just didn't get the point of the movie. You either get it or you don't... It's a reflection of our society as a whole and plays on our fears of modern day times... If the movie tape was real, and fox news or cnn played it in it's entirety, you'd be glued to the set! That's the point of the movie... We can't get enough of watching horrible events unfold... Be it war, twin towers falling, hurricanes destroying cities, etc... Our society has been like this since 911... With all that said, everyone's entitled to either like the movie or hate the movie!
I, myself being from New Orleans got to go through the same type of thing with Katrina. Maybe I appreciate the movie a little more since going through the storm. It's very frustrating watching your hometown go underwater and CNN and FOX news are covering it like it's a basketball game! Y'all don't know how many times you just want to say, hey mr. camera man, could you drop the camera and help me off of my roof?!?! Okay, I'm done. Just one more comment about where the monster came from... THIS MAY BE CONSIDERED A SPOILER SO CONSIDER YOUSELF WARNED! At the very end of the film while the two are in the ferris wheel, look closely at the horizon to the right side of the screen. You may need to rewind it a few times to see it... but that's all I'm going to say!

Its been confirmed by the cast (ill find a link really soon) that the object falling out the sky was a satalite from japan, or wherever his new slusho job was going to be. The viral campaigns went into depth about the company he was going to work for. The company uses stuff from the sea and evidently woke the monster. Please, I am being very vague about this and I am leaving MANY details out. I will find the link and provide it soon

"JJ stated himself that the monster has been down at the bottom of the ocean for thousands of years. What fell into the ocean at the end of the movie was a satellite. If you pay attention to the viral marketing, Taragutu's site states that one of their satellites fell out of orbit and was lost. This is what woke up the monster from its dormant state."

I apologize, the interview with the cast talking about the monster and the slusho company was a thing on TV that is included in the DVD version with 2 discs.

Yeah it was at the bottom of the ocean, the falling object woke it up. Pretty obvious, given the falling object was far too small to be clovie. I loved this film, except for the camera shake, caused me motion sickness.

Never fun to take motion sickness pills before watching a film!

One of the best of 2008 IMHO. It's about freaking time that the Army isn't the 'HERO' here, they always have the perfect control of the situation is ANY monster movie ever made. Not here, plus the soundtrack in reference stuff, i haven't heard anything that sounded to good and real since i'am a hometheater freak (15 years)

I hated it. Even gave it another go on blu and sold it immediately. First 25 mins is garbage. Anyone can film that. The rest is just running and screaming. Then the movie ends. It's on my list of worst films of '08. But everyone has their own opinion.

I loved Cloverfield SO much, it was one of the best and entertaining movies to come out this year...and maybe I just feel that way because it wasnt the normal popcorn flick, it was new and original. I loved how real the characters were, except
[Show spoiler]you wouldnt catch me running through all that for a girl that just played me at a party!
I think the main thing that people hated about it was the camera but come on it made the film more realistic and fun, if you didnt get motion sickness then I dont think you should be complaining. The ONLY thing I hated about the movie, and I always will hate is
[Show spoiler]that the movie did not end with the helicopter crash, it should have ended RIGHT there, helicopter crashes you see inside the helicopter via camera...hear "target is still alive" or w/e they said and then cut to credits. I was literally saying "cut to credits...cut to credits" after the helicopter crashed. Because the last 5 minutes of the movie was so irrelavent and pointless...oh well *steps off soapbox*

But in a year of more mediocre and terrible films, Cloverfield was definitely a diamond in the rough..I have not had that much fun in the theater in SO long.

Spoiler Below

What you saw was a satallite falling from the sky. The satallite fell deep in the ocean and freeded the monster from the depths of the sea.

The sound in this movie rocks. My small living room walls rattle and shake when I watch this movie. Dark Knight has nothing on this movie when compairing audio. I enjoyed this movie more than most people did.

Ok, alot of people have been saying this about the satelite waking the creature. First of all, when watching it fall into the water, it was not that far from shore so it was not that deep for this creature to live in. Second, if you watch the viral videos, the creature attacks an oil rig in the real depths of the sea. Third, a satelite is too small to fall in the water to wake the creature of that size. Especially with all the other loud crap that we humans make. It should have burned up in the atmosphere anyway.
