it makes absolutly no sense to criticize the picture quality of a high def format when your not even using cables to get the high def picture!

I am happy with bluray, just disapointed by these 2 movies.
Was just reading through this thread. I've watched both those movies and both looked fantastic.
I'm wondering how does a step down from HDMI give you the best picture? The best connection is HDMI.

Blu-ray actually works over composite?ewwwwww. These ce manufacturers need to stop putting shit cables in the box. No wonder the jsp isn't impressed by Blu anything hooked up with those shit cables ewww. Thinking about it makes my eyes hurt. I always toss whatever comes in the box except for power cords with game systems. To the op get a HDMI cable get your display properly calibrated, and after you have REALLY watched Hi- def then come back and talk to us. Your not watching Hi-def. Now excuse me thinking about those ugly cables and the picture they give gave me a headache I need to go get some excedrin.

Idk so far in my opinon THE DESCENT holds top spot for best bluray for me.
I have watched 28 Weeks Later twice on BD and to me it looks pretty good for the style of movie it is. I'd give it an 8/10 for video.

I was going to ask about the composite cables, but I figured that was too obvious. Perhaps I was wrong. But yeah, check those cables, man. Let us know what color they are.

Maybe it's time for a Beginner's Guide to Video Connections:

PLEASE do yourself a GREAT favor and invest in an HDMI cable. You will noticed a HUGE difference.

Where as I find the dark scenes in "Descent" just awful-lot of digital noise

he doesn't see that, most of the scene has absolutly no detail on his 800:1 contrast HDTV and espeically if he is using composite.

yeah its true sorry to say but most things in life are like that, those movies I could see contrast playing a major role im sure he's lucky if hes pushing the norm 1000:1 or 1200:1 he could be doing 500:1

EDIT:
Product Specs:
• Resolution: 1366 x 768
• Brightness: 500 cd/m2
• Contrast ratio: 800:1
• Response time: 8 ms
• Viewing angle: 150 x 160

Not necessarily. If the brightness is set too high or some enhancement like dynamic gamma or black enhancement is turned on, low level luminance scenes could have a lot of noise in the picture. But that's a problem of the hardware and not of the software.

Strange, I saw hardly any grain or digital noise at all, even in the darkest scenes. You may have a calibration issue: If your set is not properly calibrated, your settings may be amplifying noise that's supposed to be below black to a point where it's visible. I tested this theory out with a few of the darkest scenes in The Descent. In my Panasonic's Cinema mode with my DVE-derived settings, the scenes look fantastic; but as soon as I go to Standard or Vivid mode *BOOM* it looks like someone is throwing foil confetti around.

Only 2 ?

70% of the FOX releases suck in Video presentation. 90% of them suck in overall presentation due to missing extras. Luckily they woke up from hibernation post Paramount announcement last year else they would have focussed their energy in rolling out family friendly dramas like Nip/Tuck, L-word etc and releasing Predator, Commando and Ronin in 2010.
