I saw it at Wal-Mart today, it says 1080i on the back, not 1080p.

1080i or p, hardly matters, esp for a movie this old. I doubt you could ever tell a difference.

The only difference between i and p is the possibility of de-interlacing errors, not resolution

I only prefer 1080p so I can run at 24fps.

Well, mine came.

It's been DNR'd to at least Warner levels. Detail is quite nice, but my set is reporting 1080p, and not 1080i. Even if it is, I have yet to see an interlacing artifact in the half hour I watched over lunch

someone else probably already answered this, but if the movie is truly in 1080i, maybe you do not have that resolution checked in the video options on the ps3? so its dropping down to 480i. check that.

I'm playing through a PS3. My tv is displaying a resolution of 720x480 with an H Freq. of 31khz. I can tell it really is that bad because when I tell it to quit playback, the prompt is larger (than when it's 1080p) and obviously low res.

Just to be paranoid, I checked with multiple other movies and they all show the correct 1080p.

Anyone have any ideas?

Help!

What does an interlacing artifact look like?

flickering on straight lines, particuarly vertical lines. You've seen them on people's suits or ties all your life

Dang it. Bought the 2014 combo release because this site and back of package say 1080p... but it's a lie, it's 1080i and 29.97 fps. Submitted a revision to the listing. So disappointed, deinterlace only helps a bit. Was really looking forward to watching this classic and the sequel again. Meanwhile the sequel is thankfully 1080p 23.976 fps although the PQ leaves a lot to be desired. Maybe one day they'll do new transfers of both.

it's not actually 1080i, it's telecined so it';s 29.970fps but every 4th and 5th frame are blended so your player performs an IVTC to bring it back to 23.976fps.

This is how NTSC DVDs work, not sure why they did it on a Blu-ray but they did.
But Blu-ray spec doesn't allow for 1080p30 so it's called 1080i
