seriously... if you are going to buy hardware, evaluate your options first. if you were atleast aware there was more than one version of the PS3 then it should be obvious you're not just paying $100 for an extra bit of drive space. |

Yes. Of course it is. PS2s have backwards PS1 compatibility, so PS3s should have backwards PS2 compatibility. It goes without saying - although I seem to have to. We aren't stupid for complaining about this. Not trying to offend some people here, but some of you rich people with multiple 80gig PS3s don't really seem to know what it's like.

Maybe I should just go back to my old arguement. There should not be different versions of the PS3. They got it right the first time with the 60gb. I am not saying there should not be updates to the hardware like smaller more effcient processors and such. But there would be far less confusion if there were only one option.

I always thought it was pretty straight forward. Wasnt not having BC (among other things) a big reason why there was the $100 price cut?
No matter what anyone says you should always research anything you buy, and if you dont you shouldnt be surprised if something goes amiss. |

I do agree that you have every right to be annoyed at sony for only offering the 40gig in your area, but thats a different matter. |

True. But shouldnt people by the time their 12-14 know alot of people spew out BS like no tomorrow. I dont know, I personally rarely believe things until i can do the research myself and if i cant do the research i still believe that whatever "so and so" told me could very well be false. Maybe its growing up in a big city that taught me to not trust people you dont know.. and usually people you do know too.

Just buy a different PS3 like many have said. I have 2 60GB models, both were bought when the 40GB was launched. Therefore you should have no problem sourcing one now. People on here act like a million 60's just evaporated into stardust or something.
Find someone who has a 60 and will swap it for your 40. There are literally hundreds of thousands of 60 users that don't use the facilities it offers. I'm sure the added bonus of a warranty extension will warrant a fair swap. |

Yeah it sucks, but you have to understand something, last year before the 40GB came out, Sony was getting its ass kicked by the 360 and of course by the Wii.
Blu ray was still fighting against HD DVD and Paramount had just gone to the dark side, the PS3 game library looked eerily similar to the 360 with the exception that the 360 had better exclusives and MP games were generally better on that machine thus making it the console of choice for the consumer. The holiday season was coming and Sony needed to do something and do something fast. Of course what they did was cut the price of the PS3 (as well as release a couple of AAA exclusives). Sony was already losing money with the PS3 though so it needed to cut costs, by not packaging the ethernet cable as well as taking out the EE of the PS3 and some other components on the MB, Sony was able to offset those loses a bit. You have to understand, this NEEDED to be done, they could not afford only having a 500 console as its lowest price entry against the $250 Wii and the then $299 360 Arcade. This was a calculated risk and a calculated move by Sony to get back in the game, and fortunately they did. I also think Sony knows that there are a lot of PS2 consumers that will like to upgrade and still be able to play their PS2 games, SCEJ has been very quiet lately and has not released a lot games, and even though Sony denies it, I would be very surprised if they aren't working on Software Emulation BC for the newer PS3s without the EE. Though I might be completely wrong, I expect those will be available on or around the launch of Home or when the price drops to $299. |
