Dirty, I would stop giving him the satisfaction of replying, because he isn't in any way listening to the rebuttals you're proposing. His arguments have no substance or relevance to back them up. He's simply avoiding addressing the essence of the issue.

Oh Cooter WELCOME!!! You actually know how to read, that's nice! What happened to those really old threads that you like to bring up? Did you give up on those so that maybe you can make others forget how a ____ you are? LMAO!

PLAY NICELY OR DON'T PLAY AT ALL - OR YOU WON'T PLAY AT ALL.
The question was a simple one. There will be NO more inferences made at each other no matter how subtle or who has had the last say - any more from here on. I would suggest a few not post anything further in this thread as you are not contributing to this thread.

In the land of OZ the answer is simple the PS3 is an expensive Game console.
Why - because it's almost 5 times the price of the PS2. Everyone knows what a PS is, after all there have been many 10's millions (in various flavours) sold.

Blu-ray what's that? Is it a game that comes with it? I have heard "experts" look at Blu-ray stands commenting to their girl - nice looking DVD I wonder what it is, maybe we should that disc!

There is a great public awareness of the PS and at the moment a poor understanding of Blu-ray, although that will change quickly over time.

All true, although the BD aspect is slowly starting to catch on.

It seemed like 6 months ago or so, you could say the name "Blu-Ray" and virtually no one on the streets knew what it was.

Now at least I can walk into a store at random and say the name and I'll get PS3 references or something else that tells me they at least know that it's "something like DVD but more" or whatever.

It's a slow work in progress, but the Blu-Ray name and concept is starting to get out there and make waves.

^^ BANT!

Seriously though: That sin bin reference really did make me LOL .

On topic and footnote to my previous post:

When you start seeing the Blu-Ray side of this thing put over big in mainstream gaming magazines like EGM? You're on your way. It just takes some time.

On the home theater side, you see Sound and Vision already putting the PS3 over big time and this last issue of Home Theater Magazine saw all of their editors also put forth mostly glowing praise about the PS3, especially given its price point and everything.

I've said it since day one and I'll say it again:

While waiting for the gamers to catch up, only the PS3 is going to enjoy attention from another demographic entirely: The home theater folks.

As expected, the word is out and getting out that the PS3 is an insane steal at $500-$600 for what it is and what it does.

Unfortunately most think of it as a Really exspensive console. Thats because all the confusion on the HD-DVD vs. Blu-ray front.
I feel it is a absolute steal on the blu-ray player front,I think it does well with my standard dvds too. The Gaming aspect is just icing on the cake,Resistance:Fall of Man kicks a** big time I love the online play.

Plus it doesn't help everybody keeps throwing out all these abbreviations that do nothing but confuse the "average" consumer to the point of making them feel dumb, its so bad that people at my work ask me all the time and have even commented on not wanting to ask at a store for fear of being treated poorly for not knowing. Examples are: SDTV,HDMI,DVI,HDTV,HD-DVD,Blu-Ray,LCD,DLP,LCos,D-ILA,SXRD,480i/p 720p,1080i/p. People see all these logos and go WTF?
Why they started using SDTV is beyond me and LCos,D-ILA,SXRD are all individual manufacturers take on the same technology cause apparently no-one can agree on one thing. Now I noticed that they(HD-DVD) are releasing these "dual" format HD-DVD on one side and DVD on the other. I assume this is a ploy to gain a imaginary market share. I truly hope Blu-ray wins out and I think the PS3 is a crucial part of that happening. I have more movies than games and I just picked up a few more.

So far almost 2 out of 3 people are saying that they've noticed the public views the PS3 as an expensive game console rather than a cheap Blu-ray player, and hopefully good marketing & word of mouth will change that. Remember, I'm NOT asking what your personal opinion is on value of the PS3, because I'm sure we're all smart enough enough to know that it's an extremely good bargain. Some people still seem a little confused, though, so I'll quote Blitz6speed one more time because he explained the poll perfectly:

BTW - the word cheap in the question refers to being inexpensive, not low quality. I had no intention of setting up this poll to demean the PS3.

I'll divulge a little about myself and what I've seen. I work with kids 10 and under, and I talk with them about video games once in awhile. The ones who play video games (about half of them) are aware of all the available consoles. A lot of them have PS1's and PS2's, but NONE of them have PS3's or Xbox HD-DVD add-ons because they don't care about hi-def movies or the difference between Blu-ray & HD-DVD, they just want to play video games. At their age, $500-600 is just too much to ask their parents to spend for video games when they can get a PS2 for $130. To all of them, the PS3 is just an expensive game console.
