Consoles with less than 13 million units sold have had RPGs made for them; and that was what the PS3 had 2 1/2 months ago. MGS4 will be a big boost as well.

There will be plentiful JRPGs on the PS3 soon enough. NIS is on board; Square has a couple coming, and I'd be very surprised if major RPG sequels to PS2 games end up elsewhere.

The lack of RPGs on the PS3 is indeed disturbing.

yes variety is indeed the spice of life and i would love to see some good rpg games because i think it would indeed boost the install base of the ps3 but you have to understand it takes probably at least a year minimum to develope a game this gen (currently) and two year on avg...and these are games with 8 hours gameplay. taking a rpg for instance with 100 hours gameplay probably takes 3-4 years of developement time (for AAA) right now. that is a huge risk to take for a developer to spend all that time and money invested in a niche market. only studios with proven track records are going to take on this endevor. when you can make as much money off a fps with 7 hours gameplay and 100 hours online play for a fracture of the cost and charge the same amount and sell just as many what would you do?? the studios that can afford to make rpgs are....and when the cost of production goes down others will jump in but right now it isn't good business sense to go this route. look at Take 2. Waiting to get GTA4 out almost put them out of business....most studios can't put that kind of investment time into a game...at least one that you are asking them to make....give it a few years and you will see them coming out on a more consistant basis.

it also would serve you well to tell them what to make by speaking with your pocket book. buying rpgs (even those that aren't great) sends a signal to developers that rpgs are a worthy investment...kinda like how if people don't buy multiplats on ps3 because they feel they are getting ripped by the studios aren't helping the ps3 because studios will just see the low attatch rate of the ps3 and say it isn't worth developing for....kinda of like a self-fullfilling prophesy. give them insentive....not ultimatums. besides..if you like rpgs (and most people like them for the story and not the graphics) why not buy ps2 ones you haven't played or psp ones and play them on your ps3...or even ds ones...a good rpg is a good one no matter what platform it is on.

7 was the last really good one for me. I loved 1-7, but after 8, it seemed to be way too linear and more about the graphics and summons than anything.

I just got a survey from Playstation Underground, and filled it out making sure I mentioned I liked Role Playing Games, if anybody else gets it, make sure to fill it out so they see there are a bunch of RPGers out there! This should get to them a lot faster!

It only gets worse with MS announcing that Last Remnant on PS3 will come AFTER the worldwide release on Xbox. Oh, and Star Ocean 4 is on Xbox (no word if PS3 also, but it's definitely not PS3 exclusive like many thought). They also get that other Tri Ace developed RPG that PS3 doesn't. Damn MS! They keep buying off RPGs to keep them off PS3, but let's face it, it's not helping 360 sales. Japanese aren't going to buy them for that, and US fans mostly don't give a crap about Japanese games (mostly, I said, not all, before a flame war starts). Why do the Japanese developers not care about people actually playing their games? Ugh... This blows.

bad news all around on the ps3 side regarding rpgs. Seems like microsoft really wants to try to break into the japanese gaming market, and have soe sort of agreement with squarenix.

- Tales of vesperia
- Star Ocean 4
- Infinite Undiscovery
- Last Remnant

I think Tales & Infinite are 360 exclusive. The other two should be multiplatform, although for Last Remnant, it appears the 360 will get it this winter, while the ps3 will get it "later". Sony better get on it.

Yeah, pretty bad news for the PS3. Up until now, the platform on which SO4 would be released was unannounced (actually, it never was a PS3-exclusive, only fanboys made it that).

Now, it's confirmed on 360 and we don't even know whether or not it'll come out on PS3.

Things really need to change and fast! One awesome game like Metal Gear Solid 4 in one year just doesn't cut it. Games like Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey, Tales of Vesparia, Infinite Undiscovery and so on are all on the 360.

From a hardware point of view, I'm very happy and impressed with my PS3: it has all the functions I need: Blu-ray playback (actually the best BR-player currently available, if you ask me, especially with fast firmware updates), HD gaming, online connectivity (free) and so on.

But if the PS3 can't secure at least a good portion of Japanese exclusives, I fear I'll have no choice but to also buy a 360, which lacks the hardware reliability (and customer service) that the PS3 has.

Exactly, MS is doing all they can to buy into the Japanese market and if it continues like this, they'll succeed at it too, even with the RROD-infested, customer support lackluster 360.

I've always been against 'buying' exclusives, as I think the hardware should speak for itself. In that department, Sony didn't let me down as the PS3 is reliable and offers plenty of possibilities (BR-playback, HD gaming, free online, etc). But if all the games are 'bought' up by MS, then I'll need to get a 360 and just hope I don't get RROD

Gah, I hate what the gaming world has turned into.

microsoft tried to break into japanese market for the last what? 5-7 years?...
rpgs, good licenses, huge huge HUGE price cut of the console...
and I support this action
I mean I really think the 360 is an excellent machine with good games.
but japanese will be japanese and will only love what is made in japan, no matter what microsoft does japanese will prefer sony and nintendo
make things clear, I am not a M$ fan!! I just enjoy playing to the 360 like I enjoy playing play3

I kind of "doubt" this game will just release for 360 only. Why well outside of the usa the 360 is behind the ps3 in installed base, plus this is a jrpg and we all know that the 360 has not caught the original xbox in japan as of yet. The ps3 however is over 3,000,000 there already, so I think it will be released on both. but there has not been any 'official' announcement so I will reserve judgement on this matter until then. ciao

Not too worried because one of my favorite rpg makers has always supplied sony consoles with stylistic rpgs ATLUS. And I know there games are coming along with square and tri-ace. Shin megami tensi to me are the most forward thinking and original rpg series to date. Plus we are getting Valkyria Chronicle, white knight, and eternal sonata with in the next year so I am straight with are current rpg market on the ps3
