That's completely right about people thinking louder is better. There are rare exceptions to the belief that louder is better (Live Free or Die Hard

) Now,if you go out and buy a crappy set of speakers, would it make sense to say that if they can play so loud that your hearing is damaged, they are all of a sudden supremely superior speakers? No. You're wrong. Get that $hit out of here. You could be listening to distortion at extremely loud levels and some people may be tricked into believing that since it can play that loud, it must be good. Believe it or not, that is how some companies market their products. (Not naming names...

)
