As I recall, and correct me if I am wrong, didn't Infinity Ward say they used two separate development teams? One for Xbox and one for Ps3 to ensure the game was up to par on both systems?

The fact that these guys are going to make it for Xbox then port really scares me... They could do so much more with it if they developed for PS3 then down ported it to xbox.

They just sound like another lazy dev studio who doesn't know how to develop properly for the PS3 because they never took the time to learn.

I'm so sick of those. I dont' see myself picking this one up. I'm over WWII also... That was my grandfathers war. I need stuff I can relate to... at least Vietnam or later (or some future conflict).

Only thing saving it is that it is in the pacific fighting japanese. MAYBE.

We've not had good WW2 games thats are based in the Pacific War, the only attempt I can remember was when EA released MOH: Rising Sun, and that game was really horrible ; graphics, gameplay, everything. Hopefully this new attempt in COD:5 will give us a good game at last.........

Id rather have more modern warfare, but i have to say the name does sound appropriate. How do you have a world war without the "world at war"?

anywho id like to see a little pacific action, who knows. Im not against WWII id just have to be sold on it to buy this one.

i am extremely happy they are going back to ww2. there is waay too many modern warefare games out there....i mean tom clancy, ghost recon, socom, battlefield and on and on....give me ww2 guns that actually take skill to aim any day over an mp5 that can outsnipe a 50 cal. seriously...no 3 grenades followed by 4 203 shots and juggernaut on top of marterdom...i can't wait...only sorry it will take 2 years to get this game...and only sorrier that it will only be 3 years before another crappy cod 6 comes out with more grenade spamming and unbalanced kits that are made to make unskilled players equal to those with skills....seriously i love games that don't dumb it down to the lowest common person....besides we only have bia and medal of honor so we definately need cod to come back and bring us back to the glory days of finest hour their first release.....that was a perfect online game....game didn't crash when the host left, you could kick laggers and glitchers, host your own rooms, mute, and most importantly no ranking up....ranking up only adds to people trying to abuse the game for stupid childish bragging rights. you had a score list for that round and that was it....none of this stupid ranking up crap that causes people to cheat just to have the highest rank and unlock a stupid gun. i can't wait for this game. take me back to the greatest generation of all time please Activision!!!

COD5 is being made by Treyarch who did COD3, it was there decision to go back to WWII which personally I don't mind. Activision has approved for Treyarch to use the same engine and Ideas Infinity Ward used for COD4. Personally I think COD5 will be GREAT but there will always be critics and die hard IW fans who will find some reason to bash it.

Default Call of Duty 5 = Boooo!!!

It sucks that they're bringing the game back to WWII. That's getting so old.
Quote:
Call of Duty: World at War Revealed
The FPS returns to WWII with a new name and setting.

June 9, 2008 - Treyarch has revealed details on Call of Duty: World at War, previously known as Call of Duty 5. Unlike Call of Duty 1, 2 and 4, which were developed by Infinity Ward, World at War is being developed by Treyarch, the developer of Call of Duty 3, and will return The FPS franchise to its WWII roots. Treyarch also revealed to the Official Xbox Magazine that the next Call of Duty will, for the first time, support 4 player co-op over Xbox Live. IGN has contacted publisher Activision to see if that feature will make its way over to the other platforms, but no confirmation on that yet.

After Activision announced the next Call of Duty will feature a new military theater last May, fans may be disappointed to hear that the series is going back to WWII. However, Activision is remaining true to its word by taking the franchise to territories in the Pacific, with players fighting the Japanese. Parts of the game will also take place in Berlin as the Russians advance in on the Germans.

While Infinity Ward isn't developing Call of Duty: World at War, the FPS will still utilize Infinity Ward's award-winning Call of Duty 4 engine. Treyarch has also recieved a full year of development time over its previous Call of Duty 3 release.

Although no specific dates or platform confirmations were made, Activision Publishing CEO Mike Griffith said last May that the next installment of Call of Duty would make its way over to the DS, PC, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Wii and Xbox 360 platforms before the end of the company's 2009 fiscal year, which has typically ended on March 31.

ww2 is fine. A lot of diverse areas & weaponry came out of that time. That being said, a vietnam/korean/cold war based game wouldnt be bad either.

Sure there were a lot of strategic and technological breakthroughs during WWII, but that has been done to death.

I will believe it when i hear "official" details from activision. I just can't wrap my brain around walking away from a concept that made SOOOOOOOO much money. I'm not going to say that i favor modern warfare over historic (although i do), but from a $$$ viewpoint, I can't see them going back to WWII just yet. The sources that i've seen on these rumors and "Comfirmed" rumors, i just can't trust right now.

I see people saying every other call of duty sucks. Look at sales and you see that you are wrong. Millions of games sold so they must not have sucked that much. I don't care what war the game is based on if it is done well it will sell it really is that simple.

As to the comment of that was my grandfathers war is bull. That war has made the world what it is today. Like it or not WW2 is an important part of world history and people seem to want to forget about it. Many very important lessons were learned from that war and I hope never lose sight of that. If you do history will repeat itself.

I fear some of the lessons from that era and other eras have already been forgotten, all we hope that logic and memories of our past can lead us out of repeating a terrible mistake.

Through I would wish a game would remind people of how many innocent lives died and how bad it was that we waited to be drawn into the war.

Alot of people did not have to die but we seem to be very weary to do anything back then and especially now until it seems we have no other choice or its gotten so bad that it had to be stopped.

It scares me... it scares me that my people will turn a blind eye to the next Hitler and maybe that time we will not able to stop him or her.

I really think that many games are made to try and keep some interest in the topic. I agree that many hundreds of millions of people should not died and I am upset to here that people are forgetting about what happened. What I find even more disturbing is that many are even going as far as saying it didn't happen. I see the younger generation is being cheated out of an education. Learn from past mistakes or you are destined to repeat them. I also find the comment of "that was my grandfathers war" to be very disturbing.

People in general do not like war. The sad part is America in general has no clue what war is all about. Except for the revolutionary war and civil war this country has been immune to the true aspects of war. Large portions of Europe were destroyed while America had no damage. Well, minus Pearl Harbor no damage.

Maybe there should be some sort of section in the game or in the supplements that can discuss what happened and why.

thats the biggest problem with life/war.

we are cautious about going to war, we look back and say, man, we need to be more aggressive and not let something like that ever happen again, because a lot of lives could have been spared if we were more aggressive.

now if we are aggressive, usually we are going to destroy any chance that a ruler could take the form of a hitler and people then say, that we were too trigger happy.

I so wish that was not true but that is correct...

It makes me think society is more shallow then it appears.

Ive learned that society never wants to learn and does not
want the daily grind modified or altered or else it will cry.

And the media breeds on society's tears of the daily grind
being disrupted.

All this means is that Infinity Ward gets more time to make COD6. Which is a good thing, they have a lot to learn from DICE. I already like Battlefield: Bad Company more than I liked COD4.

They have Infinity Ward to make good games every 2 years, and Treyarch to make games for the in-between years, and keep the franchise financially healthy.

As long as they remove racist clan names on the online tags e.g 'KKK'...then I'm not too bothered.

The racist language that I hear from people with microphones pisses me off
