Please Please Please at LEAST research the Yamaha Rx V-1800!!!

Download the manual and see if it is what you need.

I can assure you I have heard everything in this ($1400) price range and this receiver is sooooooooo sick.

PLUS....are you ready??? TVCITY.TV has it for....like....$830.

I promise...it is crazy. I got mine last month and I will never look back.

All the ins and outs you need.
Decodes everything under the sun (at least this week ;o )
Build like a TANK...you can defend your home with it!!!

Just check it out. You can save a ton of money too.

pm me if you have any specific questions.

later, good luck and enjoy,

SVS says that they update their models constantly, making them better and better. The PC13 is better.

Why do you say it is better?

The OP would want something a bit better than a 720 if he's looking at a Marantz 8002. The OP is definately looking for something a bit more high-end.

The other thing you have to consider is that the dual MFW15 setup was used for the comparison. Two of those will set you back $1200 and the SVS ultra is only $1400. Plus, one SVS ultra is rated higher than two MFW15's.

There is a single MFW15 on there, ranked #8. I never said the Ultra 13 wasn't better, I just think for a grand the difference is probably negligible. Not enough difference to tell the guy he needs to consider a better sub anyway...

Ooops, I missed the single one

That being said, it must be a fair amount better as one ultra is ranked higher than two MFW15's. The difference probably isn't that large though, its really up to the individual user to decide that I guess.

Correct. I won't be able to shell out the big bucks for the sub. Besides, having 8th highest ranked sub still isn't bad

The point is, I wasn't trying to tell him to buy it. In the original post, I said he should think of investing in a high quality sub, like the PC13. Once I saw my mistake(that he was looking at the AV123 sub), I admitted it. I probably confused you when I said the PC13 is better than that AV123 sub. I appologize if I've pi$$ed you off.

Wow this thread kinda went off on a tangent.

Anyway I have personally managed to convince three people to go for the 8002 over the 7002. The power - not that big a difference. But the toroidial transformer makes quite a difference in the sound, which most people notice and like.

And ignore everyone who tells you speakers first. As long as your speakers are decent with no major flaws, the source matters more. I once saw a blind test with speakers behind a screen and people were asked to guess their value. They sounded incredible. Many people were guessing in the thousands.

They pulled the screen back, and they were $200/pair PSB Alphas, powered by a $20,000 CD/Pre/Amp setup. So you could do this at a smaller scale - the Marantz 8002 will get the most out of your existing speakers compared to any of the other options listed so far.

Yes, the ones you named ARE better, we know this. I did NOT say it was the best, not by any means. For the price however, yes it is. Hard to find one near that price that'll sound like it.

Anybody believe theres something better for $1600 or less? Maybe the Pioneer Elite 94TXH? The Pioneer has a bit more power(and looks better with my XBR3) also $600 cheaper, but the Marantz has 2 HDMI outputs and I have heard nothing but great reviews on this receiver so it screams quality. I'm really torn here.
I would go with the pioneer elite because of the speakers that you are hooking up to it I'm thinking about upgrading my receiver also to the pioneer elite receiver and the definitive tech pro 800 speakers and from what I hear the 94 sounds great with everything.

So what's your response to Marantz forcing you to ship the receiver back in order to get the updates done to fix the DTS-MA bomb issue over bitstream, and the LFE issue through Audyssey? Most every other manufacturer in this category has some form of user-serviceable firmware update. Not Marantz.
