a lot of people in a huff because someone, who is probably a part-time cash-register jockey, gave out bad info......

And "yeah" this wouldn't help blu-ray anyways... it'd just kill Blockbuster.

The father-in-law still gets mad when he can't borrow movies I buy, or get from Netflix when they're on Blu-Ray.... imagine if I told him he couldn't rent DVDs at his local blockbuster....

I think it's far fetched that BBuster will be there that soon. However, I will say this. When I was visiting my kids about a week or so ago we went over to BBuster to rent some BDs to watch in my son's PS3. I was really impressed by their huge selection taking up an entire side of an aisle. Several months ago, it wasn't even a third that size maybe one or two racks as I recall. They have really expanded the BD section at that particular store. I can imagine them filling up another aisle or two, but certainly not an entire store. I remember DVDs and VHS coexisting for a long time. The same is bound to happen for BDs and DVDs. Heck, the store in the cowboy town I live in still has a few aisles of VHS tapes for the cowboys and J6Ps who don't even have DVD players yet.

I think she must have misinterpreted the newsletter which said Blockbuster going Blu-ray "exclusive". They sent that one out when they decided to drop HD DVD, not DVD.

Hi everyone:
I stopped by my local blockbuster today, and asked my buddy who is the manager there if he got such a newsletter. He went to the back and got it, it says that "By February 2009, all Blockbusters must stock Blu-Ray exclusive in their High Definition Section of the stores", by no means did it reference that they were going all Blu-Ray. THey will be selling HD tv's and Blu ray players in the coming months also.,

I wouldn't pay much attention to Blockbuster employees. I remember after buying our 1st DVD player, we asked a manager there when they would carry DVD's. He said probably never, it was just a fad like Laser Discs.

So, it looks like the memo was simply saying that all stores must go Blu-ray exclusive for the HD offerings (probably for some stores that still hold HD DVD titles as well). It may also imply that all stores must carry at least a certain number of blu-rays, if they don't already.

I'd love to see how much Blockbuster charges for an HDTV

Too bad. It would have bee nice if the BDA gave incentives to Blockbuster to go Blu only. I think it would have helped Blockbuster develop a strong niche market that just grows and grows. It would mean them having a larger BD selection in store than Best Buy or any other B&M -- they would have been the BD leader for B&M.

Would be great for all the Blu-Ray fans, but not the average consumer.

Agreed. That chick is smoking crack if she said that.

Did Blockbuster drop VHS after DVD was out for two years?... No. And this time around we have the whole owning an HDTV predicament...

It has to be a rumor like others said a lot of people still have the regular DVDs players!!! This was way back in 2000 or 2001 i was still renting VHSs and there Dvds section was very limited!!! Of course now for the most part they are only renting DVDs and Blu rays!!!! They just don't enough Blu ray titles yet!!!

The number of people with BD players is very fractional with respect to DVD players. You would have to be the worlds biggest dumbass to go exclusive Blu with those demographics. Next time your in BB, just ask them how many people have Blu.

Hasn't this issue already been decided that the employee was confusing DVD with HD-DVD? I don't blame her as they look very similar!
