Flat in the Living room, upright in the bedroom (yeah... insert your crude jokes)
In the living room it's flat so it doesn't get knocked over, better air circulation, etc.... it sits on top of my SACD changer that is on an A/V rack of sorts. In the Bedroom, that PS3 sits vertically because there isn't enough space for it to sit flat, so I keep it between the t.v. and wall, so it can't fall over (or at least it can't fall too far) |

Thanks to blue-tooth, I keep mine inside a non-glass cabinet of my entertainment center with a ventilation fan in the back. I tried it upright and flat, and noticed that flat got better ventilation for my cabinet. I raised it up on the sides using old DVD cases to get some air movement underneath as well.
So the short answer is: Flat, but but on 1" "stilts" for better ventilation. |

I had the PS3 flat until it was extremely loud and hot when I was playing Uncharted. Then, I positioned it upright, and it's been quieter ever since.

I have the same situation. My entertainment equipment is in a credenza and the PS3 was getting hot in there. So I took it out and set it vertical next to the cabinet. It makes a lot less fan noise this way.

i keep mine flat...just because it looks right to me flat....and you dont have to worry about it falling over or someone knocking it over.
When i buy my tv stands....i usually look at the shelf room if theres good room where i can plug stuff in..and have a couple things on it i go for it....never get the ones with cabinets...and i dont crowd my stand...all i have right now is the ps3 by itselt and a couple blu rays / games Thats just me tho |

Upright with blue LED illuminated vertical stand. Looks awesome that way and gets better ventilation as well.
