I agree that new fans wouldn't care about it much even if it were dubbed, though. Maybe they'd care about Top wo Nerae 2/Gunbuster2/Diebuster/FLCL-buster more if it were dubbed, but I guess it wouldn't make much sense to only dub that half of the movie.

Robert and Ken then covered some announcements by playing trailers. The first announcement was for the simultaneous blu-ray release of Freedom in Japan and US. Details and specs are as follows:

Release Date - November 11, 2008
Price: $140 (20,000 yen in Japan)
4 disc Limited Edition box set
English and Japanese language tracks
English and French subtitles
16:9 1080p HD video
Dolby True HD 5.1 and LPCM Stereo audio tracks

Ken stated that a regular dvd version will be released in 2009 under the general BEI label. Both versions will include OAV 7. The second announcement was for the blu-ray release of Gunbuster vs Diebuster. Here are some details on it.

Release Date - November 25, 2008
Price: $100 (14,800 yen in Japan)
3 disc boxset
2 movie discs
1 bonus / extras disc

Ken also noted that the Gunbuster and Diebuster movies would be released separately on blu-ray for $50 each on the same date. He also mentioned that all three will be subtitled only.

I have the movie version sitting on my shelf, to be honest I don't even think I've looked at it yet, so I didn't even realize they'd made it 5.1 The DVD release of the full OVA was a very welcome LPCM stereo. I just can't see how you can cut it down to 90 minutes and still have Gunbuster work. I also hope they didn't go sound FX replacement happy, The Gundam movies replaced the beam saber/cannon sounds, the US version is actually better because it retains the original mono track.

Always seemed more like Giant Robobuster to me. I like how the ending ties in, but they can keep the rest of Diebuster IMO. The whole thing just felt wrong

Yeah, but only on VHS (and the music and dialogue as well as the SFX was changed). The DVD version in the US only includes the 5.1 remix/re-recorded track and a 2.0 downmix of the same track, same as the first Japanese DVD release.

The original mono is only available on DVD in the HD remaster DVD box set that came out in Japan late last year. It also includes the English subtitles (mistake ridden as they are) if you're interested and can play R2 DVDs, but unless you're a Gundam fan like me I'd wait for the eventual Blu-ray release, although it may be a few years off.

I forgot to mention, the US release had altered audio in episode 1. See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gunbust...VD_Controversy

How bout that, it is the same. It was SUPPOSED to be the original mono on the spec sheet, guess Japan found out about it and squashed it at the last minute, or sent the "wrong" tape, and no one at the facility noticed (not an uncommon occurance for actual screwups.)

Thanks for posting the covers, Morphine! I'm happy to see they kept the original (Japanese) title logo.

Every Gundam

And there are oh sooooo many more I want!
Actually some of those titles are either released or on their way:

Gundam Blu-rays (Gundam, Z Gundam, Gundam00, MS Iglo, Gundam 0079, One year war)
Ghost in the Shell (SAC Trilogy, Movie2.0, Innocence)
I don't have a link right now but Neon Genesis Evangelion has also been announced in Japan.

I think the studios start with the most popular (sure to sell) titles but more will follow inevitably. It was like that as well when the jump from VHS to DVD was made and only the most obscure anime get left behind.

I think those are the Japanese versions and Amazon is just using them as placeholders.

Note that it's only the 3D "MS Igloo" series (including One Year War) that is on Blu-ray for the original "Gundam 0079"

The original version of the first movie is on Blu-ray as well, although it may be out of print (it's one of the Bandai Visual Blu-rays that comes in a 2-disc box with a DVD version). It uses an old master and doesn't look very good, though.

Regarding the covers, remember these are among Bandai Visual's first global releases, so haveing multiple languages on the cover makes sense. Mania.com has had those images up as the box art for a couple weeks now as well, so I wouldnt be surprised if those were right.

Yes, but the threads for the covers on mania.com have the disclaimer "Japanese cover shown for reference only. Specs, Contents, Cover Art are Subject to Change without notice."

Oh yeah, they definitely still could change. I'm just saying dont be surrpised if they dont, if they're all coming out at the same time, and it's the only art BV has advertised so far.

First I read that a DVD would come out with HD remastered visuals and a 6.1 audio track, called Evangelion 1.0 and 2.0. That's officially confirmed. On 2ch I then read that they would double-dip the release as Blu-ray release.

OK, maybe I was being a bit overly enthusiastic but I think if an HD remaster has been done with 6.1, it wouldn't take a lot of effor to pump out a Blu-ray.

I have already preordered Freedom, Diebuster, & Gunbuster Blurays! Amazon's prices are too high compared to other sites...

For those of you that have not seen these, you will not be dissapointed. Diebuster and Gunbuster (original Gunbuster 2 & Gunbuster) were made by the same studio behind FLCL and Neon Genesis Evangelion. The anime is very fast paced with lots of action and amazing art. This is a perfect series to bring to bluray for artwork alone. The series was originally aired as 6 episodes a piece. However, later on the director cut them into movies to be released in Japanese theaters. The Gunbuster vs Diebuster version is cut even more from those movies from my understanding. So I believe the way to go is to buy the seperate Diebuster and Gunbuster blurays.

Mind if you ask where you preordered them? I was thinking about Freedom, and Amazon dropped their price 11 bucks this week. A bit cheaper might seal the deal for me...

I preordered Freedom on familyvideo for only $77.99. Much Much Cheaper than Amazon. I have also bought many things from them in the past and have had only good experiences.

Good to know! I would have preferred to preorder from Amazon with my Amazon Prime....

But I thought familyvideo's price was to good to last for very long if you know what I mean.
