Default Does PS3 increases your electricity bill??

I got my PS3 MGS4 bundle last june and usually I use it say like 15 to 20 hours a week in average and I saw my electricity bill for the month of June/July and it is doubled now..I am guessing its coz of PS3?? I know it uses a lot of power..

Also just wondering switching off the ps3 means just turn off the system so that you can see only the RED light on the system right? or Do I have to do something else?

Any thoughts?..Thanks in advance!

You do realize that you think a gaming console is the cause of your electric bill doubling during the summer months, correct?

It's the A/C that's doubling your electric bill, not the PS3. Welcome to this thing some of us like to call "summer."

just so you don't blame your over during the winter... here's a tip: your gas bill will be much higher when its cold out.

I dont quite understand what your saying. You really think the ps3 is making your bills increase like that?

3 years ago I had 3 regular tube style TV's and a PS2 in my house. I live in AZ and have a 2 story house. My electric bill was already around 200+ every month in the summer and under 90 i the winter. We now have 2 LCD TV', a plasma TV and 2 PS3 and use the audio receiver pretty much everyday. My bill in the summer is over 280 and the winter bill is alwys over 100.

Point is that yes, your PS3 is going to make your bill go up. It may not be the PS3 directly. My roomate has a 40 inch lcd, PS3 and computer in his room. With none of the stuff on, his room is about the same temp as the rest of the house. When it is all on, especially for hours, it is at least 10 degrees hotter. That makes the AC run more.

Also 3 more computers.

I guess Im trying to say that if you add it all up, your bill will increase.

True, but you can not argue against the meter.

I see - so when you're saying that you spent 90 in the winter 3 years ago and are spending 100 now, you're telling us that the actual usage on the bill went up and the price per watt stayed the same?

You're right, but the meter indicates how much you used, not how much you pay for it.

Geeze, saying that is like saying that my car is suddenly getting much worse milage per gallon since I put that car seat in. Because two years ago (before my daughter) I was only paying 150 a month in gas, and now I'm paying 300.....

2 summers ago gas was under 2 bucks a gallon in most places in the U.S.A. now it has doubled. That is definitely part of your increase.
I have as much equipment as the next guy and have been seeing a decrease in my electric bill. Changed light bulbs, tankless hot water heater for my house. I also have a 2,200 square foot home and an inground pool which I run about 12 hours a day. My monthly electric bill right now averages under 200 per month. I have also gotten all super energy efficient appliances.

You forgot to mention that your cave has its own natural cooling system.

No cave, just a nice home. My wife and I made a decision to conserve as much as possible. Contrary to what a lot of people think it is possible to lower your electric bill even now based on what you do at home. Like I said energy star rated appliances, changing out all light bulbs to energy efficient, using natural light instead of turning on all lights in the house etc. Our electric bill is way lower than most people we know in our area and they always ask me how we do it. I tell them but they are not willing to make the changes. To me it's all about what you're willing to do to save money. Also turn off things that you are not using. My new tankless hot water heating system has cut my monthly electric bil by 50-70 dollars.

I think my PS3 is still acceptable in terms of electricity spending, whereas the big juice sucker in my place is my HDTV ...
