I personally like The Sword. Kinda stonerish rock. Black Sabbath / Clutch sounding. Just very heavy, sludgy, guitar riffs. Think Jam band that just happens to be Metal.

Still while i think the few songs i listened to were better then the last couple rubbish piles they tried to pass off as music.

It still has this unfinished sound to it though, and IMO it's the percussions. Did someone remove the double bass from lar's drum set, what is with the trash can sounding drums? That is the same retarded crap which made there last couple albums stink up the joint and don't understand why they continue with this way of recording.

That and they are way overdoing it on many of the songs i have heard with them stealing riffs from some of their previous work. It's OK to do it somewhat but man it seems like every song i have listened to has some part of a riff that sounds very familiar to some of there older work.

+1 on The Sword. While I am definitely interested in the new Metallica, both of The Sword's cds are VERY solid. For any Guitar Hero fans out there, go back and replay GH II. Their song "Freya" is playable. Most of their lyrics are based on Norse mythology and medieval themes...which makes it even more cool.

well this album kicks maximum ass.

whoever said somethin about kid rock and korn on the SS tour in 03... wrong. that was 2000. i went to the 03 tour here in the twin cities, it was with linkin park, limp bizkit, deftones and mudvayne.

this album is rob's first album with the band. they have said rob has contributed more on this album then jason did the entire time he was with the band.

unforgiven III AND A NEW INSTRUMENTAL!!! Suicide & Redemption... clocks in at 9:57, its no Orion or Ktulu but it is badass.

to all you who doubt metallica or have left them really need to reconsider. just go to metallica.com and listen to the album for free! it is a shitty stream quality but it will prove that they can still make great music.

some good songs to check out:
All Nightmare Long
The Judas Kiss
The Unforgiven III (no horn intro like I and II )
Suicide & Redemption

of course they will say that. They have this pure hatred because he didn't like where the band was going and how now they had families and they couldn't spend all their times practicing etc etc. Their "movie" made me realize how much lars and hetfield were such drama queens and hammett was just in the middle like WTH!.

Regardless, the music does sound good but it's somewhat ruined as soon as Hetfield sings which sucks. Oh well, at least they're trying to make good music again.

Yes I wish they did the Unforgiven intro again... but the song rocks.

All Nightmare Long is the real gem on the disc... amazing!!!

I used to like Metallica and bought their albums... till around Load. Then they started to suck, and on top of it turned really whiney and litigious... especially with the whole downloading thing.

Maybe I'll download it just to piss them off. lol

My opinion but downloading and not buying is not cool at all.

This album is worth the 9.99 or 11.99 if in Canada hehe.

I ended up buying the paper back version and paid 17.99 CAD though. It's pretty neat.

Great album! I recommend it to anyone that liked Metallica before Load came out.

Yep, comes in a paper case that unfolds like a book. It costs more than the standard plastic CD case version.

I enjoyed Re-Load... Low Man's Lyric is an amazing song. But Garage Inc, S&M, St Anger... horrible.

Invisible Kid... worst Metallica song ever made haha
