I still need to see Crystal Skull. I'll determine what my favorite of all time is after I watch it. For now, its Temple Of Doom.

Raiders by far, IMO-- the most charm, originality, cleverness, plausibility, and an intriguing subject. Lots of nazis, too.

Are you sure it's raiders of the lost ark you are thinking about and not the second X-Files movie when you say laughable

1. Last Crusade
2. Raiders
3. Temple of Doom
4. Crystal Skull

Last Crusade takes everything that was good about Raiders and makes it better. Even the girl, cool as she was in Raiders, is more memorable in Crusade ("this is how we say goodbye in Austria, Dr. Jones") We learn so much more about Indy as a person AND we meet his family (in my personal favorite role performed by Sean Connery). The action is as memorable as Raiders (the boat chase, the motorcycle chase, the tank battle) the music is better, the humor is sharper. The ending has true pathos and is unique in cinema.

As much as I like Raiders, there is no way it is better than the Last Crusade.

Raiders is my favorite.

I like Temple and Last Crusade a whole lot but Temple just has a less of an intriguing story and I find Crusade to be a little to slapstick. I love them, as said, watch them a lot and am entertained, but if I have to pick and analyze and all that, this is how I feel.

edit - I didn't mind Crystal Skull but really, it was so different from the others I didn't even consider it when making this list.

My favorite is the 1st one introduced Indy to the audiences to this franchise.

Can't wait for the 5th film starring Shia Lebouf ( mis-spelled? ).
It's Shia Labeouf (But I still don't know how to pronounce that) and I wonder whether he will still be playing in Indiana movies now that his hand has been crushed.

First one is my favorite too.

nope. definitely raiders of the lost ark. the face melting scene was just horribly bad. but then it seems as though a good chunk of movies were not very good back then in terms of effects. back to the future comes to mind. though tron was amazing. if they can get tron right why can't get the others to look good? it's just that the effects takes me out of the picture when they're really bad. i'm actually surprised i hadn't noticed it in back to the future. but then i haven't seen it in maybe 20 years.

Raiders.

I had just gotten back from a season of excavating on the border if Israel and Lebanon as a Middle Eastern Archaeologist when the movie came out.

your issue with the film is that the facemelting make up wasn't good enough?

Hold up Tron is way more dated then anything in raiders and back to the future. The hole nazi melting scene looks more real then half the CGI crap coming out of Hollywood today.Superman II and Tron are so dated that they make raiders and back to the future look like CGI. Superman II being the most dated movie out of the eighties

Crusade and Raiders are neck and neck but the third film exceeds the original in a couple crucial areas.

My order:

1. The Last Crusade (10/10) *My favorite
2. Raiders of the Lost Ark (9.5/10)
3. The Temple of Doom (8/10)

4. Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (5/10)

Yeah, Last Crusade just tops Raiders. Both are fantastic but Last Crusade takes it to the next level

Raiders is one of only a handful of near-perfect films. Brilliant shot after brilliant shot. An embarassment of riches. A masterpiece.
I agree that Raiders is a near perfect film. Also, it's the one with the most Oscars won (4), the other being Crusade with one.

On a recent re-watch of these, I'd go:

1. Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
2. Last Crusade
3. Raiders
4. Temple of Doom
