It's probably just the lameness of Billy Corgan rubbing off on the trailer. I went out and bought the novel and it's really good. I think, if handled properly, this could be a pretty big smash for whoever controls the rights.

It's probably not a popular way to look at it, but if Warner didn't have the rights to the movie, they should never have made it. They should have done their due diligence. I for one really want to see the movie and hope we get the chance.

And then there's this...

Fox contacted Warner before Watchmen went into production!

Quote:
One of the most often asked fan questions about Fox’s Watchmen lawsuit is: Why didn’t the studio file the lawsuit before principal photography began and before millions and millions of dollars had been spent. Fans believed that Fox waited to “blindside” Warner Bros with this copyright suit after it was too late. Not so.

According to Entertainment Weekly’s Fox source, “studio lawyers contacted Warner Bros. about the distribution rights issue several times prior to the start of production but were rebuffed.” If this is the case, then Warner Bros is the only one to blame for this whole mess. On the other hand, WB clearly saw this whole thing coming, which I would assume means that their lawyers believe without a shadow of a doubt that they own the rights to the project. Then again, the judge’s ruling not to dismiss the case seems to prove that it isn’t an open and shut case.

You're right, we must have been watching completely different trailers.

You must be looking at the Watchmen trailer through patented Toshiba HD-DVD fan glasses while thumbing through your copy of "how to make movies" by Uwe Boll.

Man I really want to see this movie. I hate Rupert Murdoch. He comes to America and pollutes our system with his propaganda and then tries to stop watchmen. He should go back to Australia and leave our news, politics, and watchmen alone!

If Warner was in the wrong, then they are in the wrong period. Murdoch has nothing to do with it. Fox notified Warner prior to production not to proceed. Maybe it will turn out that Warner does have the rights. But if you look at it from the other possibility of What if Fox always had the rights and Warner comes along and makes a movie that you had the rights to all along. It's a little early to judge Fox on this.

He was invited to a screening... it explains that right at the beginning of the article.

jeez reading that article I highly doubt WB or Fox would allow a 3hr version of The Watchmen to be released....I'll have to wait for the Blu-ray to get the definitive Directors Cut super duper version.

I wholeHEARTEDLY agree with this statement. These studios have lawyers by the pound and will gladly unleash them if any amount of money is to be gained/lost. There is no reason for this level of unprofessionalism.

I am sure that this movie will see the light of day because its money in the bank for both Fox and WB.They would be stupid to have this movie sitting in a vault somewhere with all the buzz that is going on right now

Another thing is that WB wants the movie trim to 2 1/2 hrs...now its about 3 hrs long...why...
Watchmen is a very complex story and if the final cut is 3hrs long then that is what Zack seem fit for the big screen that would truly cover the Watchmen saga.

I'd have to agree as well. If Fox does infact own the rights, than Warner shouldn't have gone ahead and made the movie. If Fox doesn't own the rights, we'll get to see the Warner version.

It sucks cuz I'm looking forward to seeing the movie, but I wouldn't want anyone stealing my stuff either.

My question is, if Fox does have the rights and if Fox has had the rights for the last 20 years...when in the world were they planning on making this movie then??? If it wasn't for Warner, we'd probably NEVER see a Watchmen movie.
