Place Babylon AD on top of this list ASAP! $70 million budget and made less than $10 million in its openning weekend. Did anyone say Diesel BOMB?

It is funny the comments on Eddie Murphy being the "King of Bombs" when pretty much any actor would love to have his box office record. Sure he has had his share of class A bombs, but even with those his average domestic BO of 34 movies is over $100m per movie with a lifetime gross of $3.45B.

Most bombs these days are easily absorbed by the studios or eventually make money with todays vast over seas market and home video. The really interesting ones are those that destroy studios, or nearly destroy them. Cleopatra nearly bankrupted 20th Century Fox, Heaven's Gate closed United Artist's doors for awhile and of a more recent film not mentioned so far, Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within killed Square Pictures which lost an estimated $94m on their first outing, not including all the money invested into the animation studio itself.

I strongly recommend "Bound"! I wasn't sure what to expect, but I caught a bit of it on syndicated television and got so into the movie that I ran out of the house during a commercial break and rented it so I could watch the whole thing without interuptions (and MAN! Was it censored )! This is the movie that got the Wachowski's the budget to make "The Matrix"! Joe Pantoliano is FANTASTIC! And just so ya know, I normally have a problem with Jennifer Tilly, but she BRINGS IT with this role! I don't know HOW you could possibly be disappointed with this masterpiece of a thriller!

To get back on track... seems "Disaster Movie" might finally be a bomb for the hacks that brought us such abominations as "Date Movie", "Epic Movie" & "Meet the Spartans". ($20m budget and only $6m after 3 days.) Being an avid lover of the "spoof movie", I really hate this explosion of crap these guys seem to think makes a good parody.

I REALLY liked Speed Racer. I think it had too high a mountain to climb in order for it to work at the box office.

I think that once it is released to DVD/Blu-Ray, it will find it's intended audience and may make up most of it's production and marketing budget. It will also be one of those films that has a fervent fan base, much like a few of the other films on the "bomb" list, like Howard the Duck and Hudson Hawk (maybe it's a curse to name a film with a bird in it?).

After doing some research on Zyzzyx Road, i found this at IMDB.com :

All I've been hearing about is this movie that only grossed $30. So I decided to check it out. First, I researched it to see why it only grossed $30, I dound out this is a huge misunderstanding. The movie was not to be seen in that Texas theater that it played in for 6 or 7 days. According to SAG regulations the movie had to be released for a week in order to be viewed in the US. Anyway, I thought it was a great movie, a little confusing yet intense. I personally enjoy movies that keep me thinking and wanting more. I bought a couple of DVD's for $5 each. Overall, I thought Leo Grillo did a fantastic job and I recommend people to give this movie a shot!

The Baron would be mortified to know that his movie was a flop. Once again people are not remembering him. He'll look like he's 180 years old now. "I find a modicum of snuff can be most efficacious." This is all lies and balderdash! Long live the Baron!!

nope, they are INSURED, when the movie bombs, they get their money that it costs them from the govt. from what i understand, sometimes they do this on purpose, and the govt seriously needs to change this.

Add the Kurt Russell film 'Soldier' to the list. It cost $70m and took $10m. Went straight to video in the UK. No surprise that Paul WS Anderson's next project was tv movie The Sight.
