Does anyone think Blu-ray is...overrated?

I feel like it isnt necessary. I never thought dvds looked bad until HDTV came into the scene. DVDS look terrible on HDTVS, but they look fine on a regular tv.

NOTHING about home video is NECESSARY. Even the internet is not necessary.

All of this is a hobby. Treat it like it is and you'll be fine. If a hobby is something to kill for, something is wrong.

No blu-ray is not overrated but It still is as is talked about in this forum a little expensive for it to take over for dvd.Quality wise dvd cannot touch it,whether it is enough too get people to jump over is up to that person.Heck people are willing to take a drop in quality for the convience that mp3 offers over cd.I would guess a lot of people that have blu probably watched a display or saw a blu at a friends house and it was enough to get them to pull the trigger.As for me if you would have told me this time last year that I would have spent 3000 dollars on a home theater and would have 50 blu rays I would have rolled laughing.It is the quality that blu offers that got me hooked.

Of course we don't think it's overrated or we wouldn't have blu-ray movies, a blu-ray player, and an HDTV. And you obviously don't think it's overrated too or you wouldn't have these things either.

I think what you meant to ask was if we think spending over $800 on a blu-ray player is ridiculous. And I think most of us would say yes.

What it boils down to is that we get what we think we need or in some cases what we want and we almost always get what we think we can afford. So blu-ray is not overrated, but it may be too expensive for some people.
