Default Polk Audio Monitor 50

Disclaimer: I'm definitely a noob when it comes to home theater equipment.

I have three questions about the Polk Monitor 50 speakers.

1) Could my Sony STR-DG720 adequately power these speakers?

2) If I was to replace my front Polk RM6751 Satellite Speakers with the Polk Monitor 50 speakers, would the improved sound justify the ~$300 price-tag?

3) Are these speakers ever on sale (internet or local store)?

I would think so.

3) Are these speakers ever on sale (internet or local store)?

Got my pair off of Amazon for 200 dollars, wait for a sale.

Thanks, Jason!

$200 is a killer deal! Would you recommend the speakers to a friend?

I heard Fry's has them on sale every now-and-then, also.

Yeah, for that price range I don't think you will find a better tower.

Look at the cherry ones in my sig below. Scroll down and you'll find two for around $90 each shipped. That's the way to go.

Default Wood the size of a Sequoia

Just hooked up my Onkyo 805, Polk Monitor 50 fronts, Polk CS1 center...

Whoa baby...

I can't wait to go shopping for a sub and get some monitor 30's or 40's for surrounds.

Sigh... I'm never going to use my TV speakers again...

Thanks to all here for the help both recent and past... I'm a believer.

Any questions, my good doctor, and you know where to find us! You know what sub we would all recommend in a heartbeat! The difference is breathtaking.

Seriously considering it. Can get 50's from amazon for the same price as 40's from j&R (and $20 cheaper with my prime trial) 200 + tax (~$40) for the pair, delivered in two days... Trying to tell myself not to spend the cash but tomorrow's payday with 8 hrs OT in it... may not be able to resist the urge...

Um, call me crazy, but no - I don't know what you'd recommend I'd love to hear your suggestions, but the reason I was thinking 50's/40's versus 30's is the extra woofer to help make up for not having a sub. (though I know in reality I'll prob end up with a sub too...)

So Sub suggestions please?

Let's work with two scenarios (in case it makes a difference to you)
1) 50's all around or 50's/40's
2) 50's as fronts, 30's as surrounds

Discuss... don't get verklempt...

Or you could go for the 60's.

Whats your budget look like for a sub?
for 220 range bic h100
for 350 range ed a2-300
for 699 range av123 mfw-15

I think it would be hard to find a sub that can touch any of those at their prices each of these can outperform or hang with subs that cost twice as much as they do.

If you can get the 50s right now for cheaper than the 40s, do it. Saves on speaker stands....

This is the sub...

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=61245

I love my 30s for surrounds, but if I could get the 50s for not much more....why not. If you are planning on music then get 50s/40s, and if not 30s will be fine....

Do any stores in the US carry Polk Monitor 50's & the Polk CS1 Center speakers? I intend to pick these up soon (my Christmas present, ) and would rather not have to order online as shipping to Canada would kill me. Thanks.

I was just in a CC Warehouse outlet store out near Brown Deer and they have some Polk M-70's for $199 apiece, a lot of the CS1's (didn't see a price) and a lot of the Polk M-40's for $99 for the pair. Most of the 70's were open and even pretty banged up but there were a few sealed still. They also had some Polk M-50's but again I didn't see a price. The place was pretty poorly marked overall.

Overall those were the best deals I saw in the place- most of the other electronics weren't marked down enough to matter. I'm pretty sure it's one of the stores that are closing soon.
