Well, after it releases on dvd/blu-ray, then its least likely it'll reach Titanic. (Like I really care anyways)

After it's released on home video, what's the point?

It's not going to catch Titanic.

Oscar voters suffer from long-term memory loss.

To make sure Oscar Academy members are aware of Heath Ledger's performance for nomination (Hopefully for Lead Actor his performace was suited for that instead of Supporting Actor) leading up to awards show in Late February. There are at least 6,500 members (Actor, directors, press, film crtics, etc.) and the DVD's will also be distributed to them. That's what's it's all about: To get Oscar gold.

Mid-January to February is typically a slow time of the year for new good movies. Maybe Warner Brothers has nothing better to offer.

This site is suggesting that it might be IMAX theatres only:

Quote:
Warners domestic distribution president Dan Fellman acknowledged ongoing talks with IMAX executives about the prospect of restoring the film to some number of giant-screen venues in January. It's uncertain if The Dark Knight also will reappear in conventional theaters at that point.

I would assume its an Imax thing -- re-releasing a movie in theatres the month after the video release is very odd and fairly pointless. With Harry Potter getting pushed back and everything else getting juggled around, Imax theatres were going to have a problem in January... and this works well enough as Imax "filler."

yeah really if the re-release gets on the gossip movie/celb shows everynight and they take another look it'll be worth it ... great movie!

I'd go see it again once more in imax theaters. Also it seems that the oscar voters do seem to forget movies that were released early in the year when they do their votes. It will rock on blu as well!

I can almost guarantee it'll be supporting. Supporting is much easier to win. The studio wants a win, not just a nom.

Otherwise, studios have dropped non-Oscar theatrical re-releases like a cold potato.
And that was back in the days of DVD.

(As equally idealistic fanboys got a rude awakening when they tried to theatrically re-release "The Passion" every year...)

I disagree.

It's currently only sitting about 70 million back of Titanic.

Dark Knight in Imax only would probably make that up in a weekend.

Dark Knight Imax hasn't made that in the entire run yet.
Imax has very limited showings for Dark Knight, and will have fewer in January.

Obviously a re-release in order to hopefully catch a couple of Oscars (which it generaly deserves) Also if it's re-released round January there's usually nothing major on the cards release wise untill mid-Feb-March so i guess Warner are trying to get the three/four people worldwide who didnt catch the movie first time round. Dark Knight has had such an awesome repeat performance from fans who have seen it noe2/3/4 times that even with the blu ray/dvd release in December, i reckon many will still go to experience it again at the cinema or IMAX. I for one will definately go again.............................

Keep in mine the record has to be continuous. there can't be a "break" so even if DK was put back in theatres....and would pass titanic....it would have an asterisk

They added the Star Wars Special Editions' 1997 gross to their original runs. So that theory doesn't coincide with how the judged such things before.

The day it comes out on Blu-ray (whether it be Dec. 9 or 16) I will the first in line to buy it. If they re-release it in IMAX I will be first in line to see it.
