If this is the case we should also consider a speakers sensitivity - Churchhills are ridiculously sensitive - i could run those on single ended 5 watt tri's if I wanted to You can't however run a pair of Maggies with that amp - low sensitivity plus a 4 ohm impedance. There are many factors but all things being average - more good clean power will not blow your speakers.

How very true!!!!

Dude, when you test that, DO NOT HAVE THE SPEAKER RUNNING!!! that can ruin your speaker..

Sorry, maybe you didnt but when i first read what you wrote, i got the impression you did it while playing music or whatever...

!!!! No!!! The lower, the worse.

Pick the standard. The Klipsch 82s are 8 ohms. Use that.

RMS is an old, outdated measurement of audio power.

Get (borrow or buy) the Digital Video Essentials Blu-ray disc and run the Buzz and Rattle test... it runs through all the LFE frequencies and it'll give you a better understanding of your sub's capabilities, as well as helping you figure out anything in the room that could be rattling and throwing off the sound

I used it after I started listening to movies closer to reference volume and noticed what I thought was the sub rumbling loudly (not in a good way)... turned out it was some of the decor in the room that was touching the wall was rattling against the wall making a loud rumbling sound

naw, no blu yet. after i made those changes thur the receiver it sounded a little better until i played IRON MAN. it was going great until the fight with his father on the highway. but it's not loud so i may take it apart and look at the woofer make sure there's nothing wrong and check the box itself. i'll check after work today.

my receiver is capable of 4, 6, but not ohm loads. i thought lower meant better because lower is less resistance, so i have my receiver set to 4, your saying since the speakers are 8 i should also have my receiver set to 8? does this mean since the receiver is only 4-6 i have the wrong one paired with my speakers?

gear: integra 6.8 receiver, klipsch rf-82pair, rc-62, rs-52pair, and a paradigm ultracube 12

also i used audyssey and thats what it set it to

the more i look into this the more it seems i should have my receiver set at 4 ohms but math is far from my thing, but my understanding is 2 8 ohm speakers require a 4 ohm load from the receiver, now how that figure into a 5.1 i don't know, but my receiver can only select 4 or 6 ohm, not 8 which is what my speakers are spec'd at. so for now my receiver is at 4 ohm, can anyone clarify these baffling numbers for me.

The ohm load is per speaker, not across the whole system... and if your speakers are 8 ohm, but your choices are 4 and 6, select 6 as it is closer

not that i'm aware of... worst case scenario is the receiver is running hotter and higher current than it needed to and has taken some punishment for it... but really unless you're listening to your stuff quite loud it should all be fine

i had the dts pop too and thought my speakers were blown.

i dunno, most of the time they seem ok but every now and then i think they sound "off".

I would love to exchange them for peace of mind but not sure how to go about that since it would be Onkyo's fault?

yeah i have integra which is apparently onkyo's version of say pioneer elite, and it really bothers me they addressed the issue in one of the receivers i believe it was the 5.8, but still no firmware for the 6.8 for the SAME issue.

thanks btw for clearing up the ohm thing.
