Brand new here....just wanted to add my two cents regarding this film. I think as the years pass this film will gain a larger fan base. As someone earlier commented, the film was marketed all wrong. It's not a thriller or a horror flick it's a comment on how beautiful innocence can be and the lengths we will/should go to hang on to it. It is also a wonderful love story with some great performances. The scene where Ivy and Lucius sit on the porch and convey their feelings to each other is one of the most beautifully written scenes I've seen in years. Roger Deakins' photography and James Newton Howard's phenomenal score give this film so much class - both artists are the best at what they do .

This film deserves a blu-ray release more than any film I can think of...

Wow, that's quite a statement considering how many great films need to appear on BD, from Lawrence of Arabia on down. I don't think it's about innocence but a litany on the politics of the time.
[Show spoiler]The message was that those in power invent their enemies to maintain control. It's actually a very common political argument and conspiracy theory and I actually groaned out loud in the theater when I realized that's what the "twist" was all about. Of all the messages Shayamalan could have gone for, this cliche seemed so stupid.

I think there's different ways you can look at the motives of those in power and really the message of the film is open to interpretation, but "twist" ending aside (wasn't my favorite part of the film either) there are many elements of the film that were successful. I think too many threw rocks at it because it wasn't what the trailer made it out to be.

...And ok, yes, there are certainly other films that warrant a good high-def transfer....Local Hero is on my wishlist, and Jaws would be there for sure. I just hope it's in the works with other quality titles and doesn't get overlooked because of the Shyamalan backlash that hasn't seemed to subside since The Last Airbender

Man, I cannot believe we're still waiting on a BD version of this. For god's sake, STAR WARS beat it out to BD.

COME ON ALREADY!!!

Couldn't agree more, fellas. I've just bought a Blu Ray and some of the movies that remain unavailable on this format astound me, with The Village and Evolution top of the tree.

Marketing probably thought advertising it as a Drama wouldn't pull in crowds. Even Sigourney Weaver said during a promotion interview that The Village was the scariest movie she's been in so far ...

Scary or not, people felt cheated. Signs and The Village split audiences, and its been downhill for Shyamalan ever since.
That said, I did somewhat enjoy The Village (more than Signs) and I wouldn't mind owning it on Blu-ray.

Still waiting for this BD too. I saw it in theaters, bought it on dvd the day it came out. The store was out of the widescreen version, so I got stuck with the foolscreen copy. Ew. I haven't watched it in a long time, so I'll wait for the BD to come out before I rewatch it.

I liked the movie. Sure it's no Oscar winning epic, but it kept me interested. I'd love to hear James Newton Howard's score in DTS MA!

I have the complete recording sessions on my ipod. I think the movie would sound great if they remixed in 7.1. The scenes with her in the woods alone would sound great I think.

Hi folks. At least I know that The Village has been transferred to HD because it's available on DirecTV. Hopefully it will be reissued soon on Bluray.

To me it is a beautiful movie.

I wonder if it's an upscale. I wish it was on UVerse.
